Bass Rods And Reels

Post by Fish_Bait111397 » Fri Jan 28, 2011 10:06 pm

In about a week, i get about $150.00 to spend on anything.
Of course, I chose fishing. Gonna be doing some major bass
fishing here in the next few weeks and want a new rod and reel.
What length of rods are good for bass? 7'0? 7'6?
Good reels?? Brands???
Thank guys.
Any info on rods and reels is appreciated.

I like Shimano reels only have experience with the Sahara 4000 though may be a little big I am not all that familiar with bass fishing. rods I have a few I use as a duel rod one h&h which I think that company is dead now and the other is a one Piece berkley tactix I like the feel of both of them. and both are one Piece rods the H&H is paired with a baitcaster a cheap Abu black max and the berkley is paired with a quantum old one which my son and I both love the feel of that one. cast great for being a 4 bearing reel.

Someone else with chime in with better, more concise knowledge than I have. But, I'll try to contribute the best I can. As you know, bass fishing has many, many techniques. Some rods may me used for more than one application effectively. I guess an example of this would be a good crank bait rod used for jerk baits as well. Many feel a worm or plastics set up is a good starting foundation. I fished for years with a st croix generic 2 piece rod and cabelas brand of daiwa tierra. For me, there was nothing wrong with it at the time. I eventually stopped using the excuse of the portability 2 piece rod and went with dedicated rods for different presentations. I would recommend going with a 1 piece rod because the sensitivity isn't sacrificed. Ultimately It all depends how seriously you want to take the sport and how much time you'll have to make it worth the investment. With that pile of confusion said, I think it'd be best to figure out how you want to work your way into the sport. Personally I regret wasting money on the 2 piece rod because it was just so-so with worms, ok for spinnerbaits, and overall not good at anything. Hopefully someone else chimes in because I'll just keep talking in circles.

I tell you what if your even considering getting a new spinning rod and reel you HAVE to get this Deal!!!!!!!!
Two Quantum Tenacity TN30 Spinning Combo's or two Quantum Arroy AR30 combos for $37.99 Now thats two 6'6" MH rods and 2 of the Tenacity 9 bearing reels all for $38 bucks plus $8.85 shipping. The Arroys you can get 3 combos for $55 bucks and change. Killlllller Deal!!!!!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Quantum-Tenacity- ... 2a0d97ec2d
Don't bid more then the minimum as he has a ton of rods and reels he is selling. Check out his other stuff some fantasic deals here.
I bought 3 of them. Two of the Arroy AR30's combos and one TN 30. The reels are sweet. IT is super smooooooooth and has a lot of great features that you only find in reels well above $100 Check out the info.

Reel:
The Quantum Tenacity 30 size spinning reel features an amazing 9 bearing system for the ultimate in long lasting smooth operation. Other features include a machine forged aluminum Long Stroke spool, continuous anti-reverse for solid hook setting power, smooth operating, fully adjustable multi-disc front drag design, oversized line roller to reduce line twist, Right/Left hand Retrieve. Line Capacity 120yds/10lb mono. 5.0:1 Gear Ratio. RECONDITIONED and backed by Sportsmans Factory Outlet 30 Day Guarantee.

Rod:

New 2-Piece 6'6" Reliance Rod
Premium Quality Graphite Blank
Cork Handle
Alum. Oxide Guides
Medium/Heavy Action
Lure Weight:3/8oz-1oz
Line Weight:10-20lb
Now these say these reels are reconditioned but trust me they are new just no box or paper work, I love mine.
The pole is not as nice as the reel but aren't bad either. It is a 2 piece and not enough guides but for the price even if you throw away the rod and just keep the reel YOU CAN"T GO WRONG!!!!!!!! So far I love mine. even the rods are ok.

That sounds like a great deal Fish n Fool!
Fish Bait, if you are interested in casting rods as well, I have had good luck in the past with Cabela's brand rods. The Classic series rods are under $30, and quite durable. I fished that rod with a Daiwa Megaforce real for two seasons(alot) with no issues. I think rod and real together were under $100. Bass Pro Shop also has some great deals on combos right now. All you need is a 6'6" medium spinning rod for drop shotting and weightless plastics, and a 6'6"-7' medium casting rod for crankbaits, spinners, and jigs, and you will be ready to go. When I started bass fishing, all i had was a cheap spinning combo, and I caught lots of fish. Once I got my first casting rod it opened a whole new world of fishing to me, and now, years later, I cant get enough! Personally I fish St. Croix rods, Daiwa casting reals, and Shimano spinning real. But you will, over time, discover what feels best for you. Most gear will treat you as well as you treat it.

I have been looking at the BPS rods.
I will mostly be throwin cranks, spinners, and jigs.
I love shimano reals, ive always used spinning.
But i moved onto using baitcasters.
Its nice to have Cabelas 10 minutes from your house,
and BPS 15 minutes away.
Thanks for the info guys.

I fish with lamiglass rods and really like shimano and quantum for reels. Been using quantum accurist and pt tours. Obviously the tour is alot nicer. For rods I dont spend under 100 unless used same for reels.

You don't need to buy the good stuff to bass fish. But im pretty hardcore fisherman and put my gear through alot of use, thats when quality matters. Beside cheap gear always breaks first season using it.

I have found, that my most versatile bass rods are my 7 footers in a medium action. These provide excellent feel on lures down to 1/4oz, and up to 3/4 of an oz! They can handle everything from cranking open water to flipping braided line in the scrub brush and grass. Of course there are more specific applications that I have specific length and weight rods for, but if a guy could only have 2-3 rods at one time, you would get much much more use out of the medium action rods! The 7' 6"+ rods get a bit more technique specific, i.e. swimbaits, flipping & pitching, and the shorter 6 footers are great for skipping baits up under structure, in fact I use to run strictly 6 1/2' rods in a spinning application, but found the 7' rods to be my best all around with a baitcaster. Med/hvy rods have their place and I carry a couple of those for heavier cover and topwater, but my best money spent was on my 7' Shimano rods! Sometimes I fish with my friend out of his 12' Jon Boat and there just isn't room for 9 rods each plus tackle boxes etc... I take two of my 7' medium action baitcasting rods and one 6 1/2' spinning rod with 2 spools one with 8lb test and one with heavy braid and I am covered for whatever type of fishing we encounter during the trip.

Best of luck in 2011!

4) I want to catch them the way I want to catch them.
5) I want to help others catch them.

7 foot works the best for me. I dont know if it because of my height or what but using 6'6" or smaller just doesnt have the right feel about it. Spinning reel I go with the Pflueger President ... a rock solid spinning reel at a great price. I am a fav of the St Croix Mojo Bass rods. They fit into my budget and I have gained great confidence in them. I also have a couple Lamiglas Competitor rods that were under 100 and fit the bill as well. Bait casters I have stuck with Quantum until recently and purchased a Abu Garcia Revo. Feels night and day between the two. Quantums are still nice dont get me wrong but the Garcia is honestly on a different level to me.
'course they don't have biscuits and gravy ... but if they did, I bet everyone would eat there.
