Nov.13, Saturday,NEED IDEAS!!!!!

Post by Fish_Bait111397 » Mon Oct 25, 2010 4:49 pm

On November 13th, is my 13th birthday  my mother told me I could choose to go fishing ANYWHERE I would want. This year was my year to catch my first King and my first Silver.
King,check.
Silver,still in the water.
Im after my first silver, where should I head to get this fish? What gear? I can get any gear I need to buy including a new rod (Looking at G-Loomis). Im gonna buy corkies, yarn, pencil weights, jigs. I dont have a boat, but would casting brad wigglers and plugs be a good idea?
Thanks.

~My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.

G Loomis at age 13??? :cyclopsan

Geez, I'm in my 40s and hoping for a Lami for Christmas LOL...

My steelhead rod aint bad but not a Lami.
And nowhere even close to a Loomis!

Sheesh happy B-Day indeed LOL.

If the Hump is in shape out toward Ocean Shores U might try it up towards the hatchery for a first coho. There's always the Cowlitz (probably Barrier Dam area). Locally I would think the Green would be a hit and miss chance but with the Puy closed would think could be crowded too on a weekend. Pretty iffy/spotty though on the Green for coho.

PS- U can cast plugs fro mshore but can lose gear doing that too and those things aren't cheap unless U know the water well and where to fish/not fish for avoiding hangups/snags IMO.

Yes well enjoy my friend.
I work and work and STILL can't get the Loomis or the Lami LOL.

That's the problem with getting older.

Yes, thats all true about the bills getting in the way of the fishing, but I imagine you still get more fishing time then I do, im the only one in my family who still fishes. My uncle does but he doesnt like the combat fishing. Hes from arizona and would fish for LMB and was use to not seeing a person in sight.
So I dont get very much fishing time with my sports, school, and no one else "enjoying" fishing in this household.

I plan on starting to scouting the OP for early metal heads. I hope to be out there the weekend before that. if you haven't fished any of the river on the OP it is worth the trip. I would request your parents get you a guided trip for your bday though. Some time late December early Jan in the heart of winter steehead fishing.

Hey scott,

thats what i has orignally planned on doing, was goin out on a guided trip.Unfortunately about 8 months ago my dad got injured at work and no1 has been able to work since then. We have been having unemployment checks every week, so we dont have the money for a guided trip. So I will just get a lilttle bit of new gear, might not get a new rod, dont know yet, thanks though.

And if matt happens to read this, I know your a fan of the wigglers, do you think they would work good for casting from the bank???

I'd go to the Sol Duc, and then to the Salmon. But if yer really looking for a fish try the cowlitz.

Casting wigglers works well, but there are a few keys especially if fishing from the bank. Change location frequently, if you cast in the same spot over and over it will not likely produce a strike on a plug from shore, what you are looking to do is entice an aggressive fish that is holding to structure into biting. This is different than say drift fishing where you are targeting holding fish, but also swinging through a slot targeting fish that are cruising, or heading up stream. I like to target structure such as boulders, logs, undercut banks, and current seams, and fish for them like you would fish for bass repositioning the plug into new structure each toss. I cast right into the junk, and then start a stop and go retrieve all the way back to shore. The stop and go tactic will cause the plug to dive and then rise up, and dive again.... usually as the lure rises up fish will come inspect it and once it starts to dive again they will get ticked off and nail it. This technique also helps entice following fish into striking rather than just following. I have had a lot of strikes come right next the the bank, sometimes only inches from shore.

I think the Cowlitz might be a good bet for your birthday, there should be a ton of fish of all different types in the system in November. I would suggest using bait, floating jigs, or drift fishing.
