I'm on a two year drought my friend. Unless you are good or really know where to go and where they lie; steelheading can be as tough as it gets! That's why I hired FF haha

downsize gear like 6lb flourocarbon and 1/16th oz jigs or even #14 corkies. Keep casting the productive stuff because then they might hit it out of aggression. I do not think eggs with jigs work very well but small pieces of prawn boraxed are hard to beat. If you do not have a steelhead by march/april go to the skookumchuck, doesn't get much easier.
Also feels a lot better to catch a first steelhead without a guide but if you want to learn your local waters better than yeah a guide is not a bad idea.

Basically, someone could tell you exactly where to go, what to use, and even point the fish out to you and you might still not be able to get a bite. Although the first part of catching one is to go where the fish are you still have to know how to present your offering. It's no secret that it has been a tough season to begin with, so don't think that what you're doing is wrong. Many of us are still trying for our first winter Steel of the season also.
Lure size, color, and how/where you present it can change on a daily basis as the river flows/color change with the rain. You gotta put your time in and watch what other successful fishermen are doing. Eventually it'll pay off.

Hit Reiter very early morning and walk downstream a bit to find a spot, so the fish see your stuff first.
