SINGLE HOOKS
What is the rule for using a single hook(Like DN 50/50) versus Vibrax #4 (for example) that has three hooks? I've been using DN for salmon and not sure if I'm allowed to use more than a single hook.
Any help will be appreciated!!

Re: SINGLE HOOKS
Almost every Salmon river in Washington State has either a selective gear rule or a anti snagging rule. Under the selective gear rules you need to have a single point barbless hook, and the anti snagging rules vary a bit river to river.
If you could fill us in on what river you are fishing Im sure we could help out a little bit more. But the safe bet is to leave the treble hooks at home.

Re: SINGLE HOOKS
thanks, I've been on the snohomish and then Pullalup. I'm now looking at the green river.

Re: SINGLE HOOKS
The Snohomish has a "anti snagging rule" which states
Except when fishing with
a buoyant lure (with no weights added to the
line or lure), or trolling from a vessel or floating
device, terminal fishing gear is restricted to a
lure or bait with one single-point hook. Hooks
must measure ¾" or less from point to shank,
and must be attached to or below the lure or
bait. Weights may not be attached below or less
than 12" above the lure or bait
which ruffly translates into- Unless it floats it has to have a 2/0 or smaller single point hook. Hooks cannot be above the lure, and if fishing with a wieght your leader has to be at least 12"
Im not sure about the Puke though.

Re: SINGLE HOOKS
Puke is under anti snagging rule and always barbless. If you move into the carbon it loses the barbless requirement. I downloaded the PDF rules to my kindle app on my tablet and phone - comes in handy!

Re: SINGLE HOOKS
Carbon is not barbless. Anti snagging rule, but not barbless. From voights creek to hwy 162 bridge is selective gear rule, but that doesn't open until Nov 1st, and you wouldn't (couldn't) fish salmon. I would paste the rule in, but doing this from a knock off tablet so can't figure out how.

Re: SINGLE HOOKS
Better check the reg's again. The carbon is barbless at all times under the barbless reg. and under the selective gear rule. Pinch the barbs.

Re: SINGLE HOOKS
Just rechecked them again for the fifth time. Checked them a couple times before the last post to make sure I was reading them right. Nothing about selective gear until Nov 1 like I said in prev post, and only from voights creek to hwy 162 bridge. It does have anti snagging rule but that just means only single point hook unless using floating lure. Unless there was a special rule change on the website that wasn't in the published regs.
Again I would paste it here from the PDF they put out every year but can't figure out how to do it from my tablet. Maybe later tonight I can get on another computer.
I've fished it plenty of times barbless, but wasn't necessary this year. I don't keep regs from previous years so don't know how its changed over the years.

Re: SINGLE HOOKS
Right your are. I was looking at the link sealegs posted above. It is for the 2010-2011 regs. 2013 Below Voights Creek Barbs ok until Nov 30th then selective gear rules Dec 1st thru Jan 15th for All Game Fish.
Thanks for being persistent and making me follow up and get it right.

Re: SINGLE HOOKS
No prob. I fished it on labor day barbless and a buddy told me after I landed a hen king that its not barbless. We argued a bit but now I just always double check each time before going out. (I had lost a king prior to pulling that one in.)
I thought maybe I read it wrong.

Re: SINGLE HOOKS
I just measured my 4/0 hooks that I have been floating eggs with and they are about .7" from point to shank which would make them legal for anti sangging rule fishing.Steelheadin360 wrote:The Snohomish has a "anti snagging rule" which states
