Columbia River Whitefish

Post by tquane » Sun Jan 24, 2016 12:13 pm

Just moved up here from California to retire. Grew up in the Tri-Cities and thought I would never return. Glad I did. Been enjoying the duck hunting and the great outdoor stuff. My son just came up also and unfortunately he would rather fish than duck hunt. All it took was a sunny day and then he wanted to fish. Got him a license (nonresident) as I have. Few more days to go to be considered a resident. Anyway went to do a little bank fishing to no avail and was thinking to try for whitefish. Never been very good at whitefish but it seems it maybe the fish to pursue this time of year. Any suggestions as to technique would be appreciated. I grew up doing it with whitefish flies with a maggot bouncing off the bottom. I always snagged so a little hesitant but it seems to work.
Thanks
Tim

We've had several whitefish reports on the Columbia this winter. I would try a search of the report database, use the filter to pick whitefish as the species. You'll get some good info that way.

Mike, Thanks. I did the search and ended up going to Vernita Boat ramp yesterday. Zero fish but a learning experience. My son enjoyed it as he's never seen that country before.

Go to the Latest Reports table. Use the filter above the reports and select "whitefish". There are three from this winter that will pop up.
