I do like okuma fishing reels though, but yeah when I started out salmon fishing I used my dads old eagle calw bait caster rod with old reels that was pretty nice back then until I started using the heck out of it and then my personal first combo was a blue 8'6 lamiglas norwest special with an abu 5500 silver bait caster. wow I caught a lot of fish with that combo at all the local rivers. But yeah I did not relize that you are just getting started my bad.

Now that shimano owns Loomis their warranty claims went to sh*t. Lamiglas warranty is much better a little slow but they will at least speak to you. Loomis is only lifetime if you purchase their premium warranty package for around 75 bucks. Never really cared much for Loomis good blanks every thing else is cheap including their new warranty. As far as getting rods fixed Gregs Custom Fishing Rods in Lake Stevens is a superb outfit. They will fix you up. I think he is around 8 buck to wrap and epoxy a guide +tax.

If you Loomis guys are wanting a real Loomis not a glorified shimano go to EDGE rods or North Fork Composites...FYI

We all start somewhere, ifished an okuma for years with no prob. I have since upgraded but still have my old glass okuma humpy special. istill use it as my twitching rod. I'm sure as experience and income grows he will discover the joys of finer rods.

The fish don't care what kind of rod you use.

No need to get a loomis until you're ready. Congrats on the find at the G-sale, gotta love second hand treasures! There is a really cool video that will show you how to wrap a rod well, mudhole.com has a good video that will show you the basics - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uJb5oRw ... 92&index=7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You don't need to have a power wrapper, just cut a couple pieces of card board out and tape 'em to a table and cut a v for the rod to sit in. turn the rod by hand as you're wrapping the thread on and tie it off an on like in the video. The one thing that will come in handy is a fly tying bobbin. Tape it to the table in front of your rod, so that you can keep tension on the thread as it goes on, leaving both hands free to guide the thread and spin the rod. Get some rod building epoxy, and put it on as you turn, and turn it until it dries or else you'll get drips.

Or take the trip to lake stevens and have them do it for you, it will be cheaper than buying the supplies yourself unless you plan on breaking more guides. They are good guys up there and will set you up, I get a lot of my rod building stuff from them.

I just bring my rod to defiance boats and they send it in or get it done in their shop only prob is that it takes forever to do it. I know sportco does tips and stuff for like 3 bucks or something.

Greg's also does awesome rod building classes too. If I didn't know that I would build a bunch of rods i don't really need and spend a bunch of cash I can't afford to spend, I'd go sign up!
