Snohomish River reports

Post by A9 » Sun Sep 09, 2007 6:06 pm

Anyone been out lately? Will be going somewhere between the confluence of the Snoqualmmie and the Sky and downtown Snohomish. Going several times over the next few days and then after that, going off to college...Wondering if it's been any good out there lately?

I know I've looked through some of the reports but I haven't been able to post any of mine so I figured some of you might have had the same problem and can only post up your results on the forum...

FYI green jigs have been doing just as good as pink jigs, so if you can't find any pink jigs in the stores, a light green jig will do the job too...

Will head back with results over the next few days....

I checked it out last weekend up stream from the Snohomish boat launch.
Elbow to elbow on the bank, both sides and boats parked down the middle.
This was in the morning saterday. When I walked down to the river there were
8 or more fish being reeled in, people cleaning them and putting them on stringers.
All the fish were nice and silver. Still to many people for me, but the fishing was excellent.
Didnt look this weekend.

Yea I'm usually out there on weekday mornings really early. I hate fighting crowds. My place requires atleast a 1/4 mile if not a third of a mile walk so it keeps less traffic there. I hope those fish have moved a few miles up and are right where I'm casting tomorrow! Report tomorrow by noon for me. Waking up at 5:15 to get fishing by 6:00am.

Just a look at how fresh some of these river fish can be that are pouring into the river. I didn't keep any though...

Anything gets fish to the shore really. Pink Jigs, green jigs, Pink Dick Nites or silver dick nites, silver kastmasters. SLOW is the only way you will catch em, remember, the ones jumping aren't the biters. Get your gear down low and you will have good luck out there...

Hey, are the Pinks in the Snohomish River still OK to keep? I was thinking of heading out there in the morning to give it a try.

Silvers are coming soon, yeah?

Mikey,
Fish in the Snohomish system and you will run into good chrome fish. Lower the better. Up around the confluence and when they split off to the Sky/Snoq, I hear they get a little more beat up, but I'm sure there are still a few fresh ones up there...

Couldn't budge a fish on a pink jig tonight. Pulled out the green hootchie on a black jighead and landed 3 within maybe 15 minutes and then a few more after that....

Wasn't someone talking early about using a Maribou jig for salmon once? I have a couple of those.

hit the river last night by 522 right at sunset. had a fish on on the third cast, it made a couple jumps. had it into shore, just about to land it. then it takes off back into the deeper water and snapped the line. had two other hook ups in about an hour. my first fish on of the year so i was happy. i'll land one next time.

on another note though are there other salmon in the river right now? the one i had on seemed to fight harder than any other pink i've caught in the past. Then again it's been two years since i've caught a pink so i might've just forgetten how good of a fight they are. i also dont remember any jumping in the past when i was fighting them though.
there's nothing better than standing on the side of a lake or river knowing that only a handful of people have stood in that exact spot and witness the beauty of mother nature first hand.

viet,
There are tons of pinks in the rivers, yes they will jump and yes they will fight much better when foul hooked. Very easy to do.

Silvers are showing up, I've seen a few boot kings mulling around still, but it's most likely you foul hooked a fish and it broke off or the hook lost it's hold...

Sam,
I was out this morning, caught a Pink. It was already green/grey (female). So, seems to me that the season for Pinks is almost done. Is there still some fresh pinks out there and I just got one that's not so fresh?

I was out last night and caught a bunch of pinks that were getting dark. I did land a few bright ones though. I was fishing out of the jet boat with my brother from 522 all the way down to just below crab bar. There are a few nice silvers showing though because we saw a few fish jump that were deffinatly silvers. One that I saw was at least about a 15# hooknose. It was chrome, but had the slightest hint of purple hugh on it. The silvers are coming, but be patient and wait until the next good hard rain and they should be in good.

Yes and no. The later the salmon come in, the more colored they become. Yes the Pinks are thinning out for sure. They were thick on the westside of Whidbey Island over the last few weeks but it's slowed down over there so I'm sure the end of the run is near. There are still some fresh pinks, and you probably got a colored one.

i was under the bridge at 522, west side yesterday to, a good part of the day.. it was real real slow until slack tide then things picked up a bit, lost a few right at the rocks when they saw me.. all were transformed humpies.. only landed one, with a green splatter back hoochie mounted on a black head 1/4oz jig with pieces of shrimp.. (report posted)

the pinks are defenitely thinning out and any you catch down that far are most likely going to be mostly transformed into humpy monsters..

Are you talking about slack tide in the lower river? Because the tide does not effect the river at 522. The furthest up the tide effects is Crab Bar and Thomas's Eddy which are both a good couple of miles downriver from 522.

ok maybe i'm not cool, and don't know the right termonology. but the river instead of running out faster or pulling in, got very slow and almost pond like for a little while under the bridge, and an older fella called it slack tide.. i'm still a noob so forgive me if my terms are wrong.. and really, who cares! oh.. u do..
