Steelheading the Snake

So... I got to spend Winter break Steelheading the sky, and it was wonderful, but now I'm back in Pullman for school, and still craving my love of those steels. I was wondering if anyone has fished the Snake or any other rivers around Pullman for Steels and if they could give me any tips or areas to try.
So far the only thing I've gotten out of the Snake are some nice smallmouth.

i heard the fishing for steelhead in the snake was great, but have not heard much else lately. if you do hear that the steely's are in i would try jigs or spinners off the shoreline.

Jig and a prawn right below little goose worked for some anglers I saw, its mostly a fall run thing up there I think.

right where you are at, you are within 45 minutes or closer to some of the best steelheading in the world. my UPS buddies fish ice harbor dam regularly, 3 times a year, when the different runs come thru. they fish all the way up to lower granite dam (which is 15 minutes from you, and ive fished it many times myself). this dam is by far the most popular on the washington sides of things (boyer state park can give you current conditions, restaraunt, etc). they use slip bobbers, with black rock dancer jigs, with a shrimp. now 30 to 45 minutes to you is the confluence of the rivers at lewiston (im not sure which rivers meet), this area is known worldwide for its outstanding steelhead fisheries. this time of year, i believe the "B" run fish are the winter-runs. these get to be monster in size. again the guys at boyer will fill you in on all you need to know. these areas all have good shore access, plus, if you get to know a few farmers, they will gladly let you walk thru a field to get to a good shore spot. i do alot of pheasant hunting over there during the season (quick day trios from tri-cities), and the farmers i ask permission to hunt always ask me why i didnt bring my poles. good luck

If you're willing to drive a bit the Tucannon River gets a pretty good run too.
