Northwest Fishing Reports

Just noticed this update on the WDFW website regarding Skagit Sockeye: The in-river sockeye sport fishery is scheduled to start June 16th. It is unclear whether WDFW will have a permit to start fisheries by this date or not following the recent agreement with our co-managers on 2016 salmon fisheries seasons. Please check the latest news releases for updates. Trap counts will begin to be posted online Monday, June 6th. I fear we will be watching the trap counts skyrocket as we are still waiting for the season to begin. Which I suppose is really better than having an open river with no fish in it.

We should have permits before the season opens. Im guessing by next weekend we will be fishing.

Im itchin to get out on the rivers when they open! I have tried for Sockeye plunkin sandshrimp with spin bobbers on the lower skagit in mt vernon, where in general is a good place to fish for sockeye on the skagit? follow the crowds? techniques? Anything helps, hopefully something happens soon!

Plunking is the go to method for them. Anywhere thats open can be good as these fish don't hang around long. One moment they are there the next gone. Your best bet is find a steep bank where the water is from 3-10 ft and hope your in their passing lane
