Northwest Fishing Reports

I have been using a lot of Power Bait and Eggs lately with long leaders. For some reason, my first bait will float well, no problem, I can get it up off the bottom. My second time baiting, the bait can barely keep any part of it floating, but it floats. The third time, the bait will sink, and now I have a long leader sitting on the bottom getting tangled. Does anyone have any idea why this happens? I use a size 8 hook and six pound line, so I don't think those are concerns. Could it have to do with the humidity of the day catching up with the bait? The amount of bait?I have tossed in small pieces and large pieces on a hook, both seem to have the same buoyancy, the small amount if I had to pick the more buoyant one. And if you have an answer to that question, can you help me solve it? Thanks in advance.

Sometimes old powerbait doesn't float. Buy new stuff. It's cheap.

I guess, but it can't get old within a space of two hours, then revive itself magically for another fishing trip.

I have noticed that mainly with glitter power bait - don't know why it happens, it seems like the outer layer of the dough soaks up a little water, maybe plus the weight of the glitter is just enough to sink it? I have found if this happens I will re-shape it around the hook and maybe add a little dab of fresh and it starts to float again.

Yes, the biggest issue for me is with my pink double-double glitter powerbait. Does any kind of scent add as an attractant and flotant? Smelly Jelly, etc? I know fly fishermen use line flotant....maybe I need to secretly construct a complex construction manual on how to put Power Bait on a hook so it floats.:batman: :colors: :compress: :bounce:

If you are using flourocarbon for your leader material it might be absorbing water. Found that out the hard way fly fishing. Floating line, dry fly and a leader material that sinks...!

Nope, it's six pound Berkeley Trilene mono. Not the best choice, but the other one is Stren. (I HATE STREN!)
