Home made trout baits and lures

Post by fishing collector » Mon Jun 16, 2008 8:11 am

:fish: Thought I'd open a discussion about Homemade lures and treats for trout now that the opening day "easy catch" is over. Here is a recipe for home made bait to try for trout and other species. Start with your kids or grand kids Play Dough....Pick a color that you like or mix a custom color. When I made this a few years ago I made a lime green. Starting with a golf ball size Playdough then adding a teaspoon of garlic powder and a 1/2 teaspoon more or less of glitter. You can stop now or read on... Then your favorite smelly stuff attractant, oh... about a teaspoon or so. Mix thoroughly.....if the stuff is too soft then add some corn meal till the consistency of the stuff is right and will stay on a hook. There... you are now ready to go. I made this stuff with the grandnieces and we tried it out at Spectacle Lake and caught a bunch of trout off the dock.

I am sure that there is a lot of stuff that is being custom made, not just baits but lures as well. Now's the time to share some long held secrets. Maybe I will share with you my special bait made with bread and corn and Jack Daniels.=p~

Fly Fishing is the art of attaching a fake bug to a line and relying on the appropriate manipulation of the rod to deceive the fish into eating a sharp steel hook covered with feathers and fur.

That sounds like a nice little mix-up. The only "custom" bait I've really seen used was when my wife put a piece of dried pineapple on her hook. Not to my surprise, she didn't catch anything on it. HAHA!
