OK, back to the topic? Well, I'll try.

I find that just because the line has a name brand does not mean it is going to be good. I guess I won't have a line sponsor now, will I?#-o

The P-Line series is not my favorites for sure, but the Florclear is good. It has the strengths of mono and some of the refraction of carbon. It works good for all reals, but it is a go to for my spinning reals. The CXXX is OK for bait casting reals, but it has a lot of memory and is thick for the rated breaking strength.

Braids are everywhere, and for a reason. They are great lines, but, they are still just tools. I find that braids are not good lines for jerk baits, glide baits, or big swim baits. I prefer mono for those. Also, for line shy fish, you must use leaders if you use braids. I find Power Pro works well on spinning reals and bait casters.

Suffix Siege and Elite are good lines, and I have both spooled up on different spinning reals. In heavy enough lines, they work well on bait casters as well.

Gamma is actually a good line, but you must not forget to lubricate your knot as you tighten it. I have one spinning real spooled up with it.

What you look for in a spinning real line is mostly low memory, something that won't leave you with a lot of birds next to pull out. I also find that smaller diameter lines help with casting distance.

What you look for in bait casting lines is lower stiffness, therefore fewer back-lashes, and toughness.

Still, there is no one line for one type of real and one line for another type of real.

I assure you, everyone has there preferred lines, but I find that Stren, Berkley, and Maxima are lines that were once top of the heap, but have not improved over time. They are selling based on old reputations, not current excellence. Again, this is what I find, and as you can see, others have their opinions that are different then mine.:-"

I seem to have major problems with line memory when using mono and some fluorocarbon on my spinning gear. This has bothered me to no end. I was typically using Berkley Big Game or Izoline in 10-12lb test. This past summer I switched out my spinning line for 10lb braid. I found that the PowerPro braid works best for me and I usually pair it with a fluorocarbon leader. This covers my dropshots, shakey head, and senko type rigging.

I recently purchased a couple of used spinning rods that lend them self well to be used for crankbaits. My first inclination is to use mono, I like the idea of that extra stretch when working crankbaits. However, I do not want to revisit the line memory associated with mono again. I will be searching out a solution for my crankbait situation this spring. If anyone has found a low-memory mono line, please post.

There is something you can do to help out any mono you may have on a spinning reel. After your last cast of the day, unspool your line to a point where you are sure it wasn't used and retrieve it through your thumb and forefinger to remove any line twist and release any undo tension. Something that I've noticed is when mono is wound onto a reel under so much tension that it is stretched, the memory is much worse. So after reeling in line while snagged up, be sure to "relax" your line before putting it away for the day.

Thanks for the tip, I will give it a try.

Try spiderwire mono it is pretty low memory compared to alot of other monos Ive used. They also came out with an ultra cast now. Ive not tried that but Ive heard its there lowest memory line they have. Big game is a good line for bait casters or even a leader. But its a thick line and does hold memory. Izorline is same thing. Good baitcast and leaders not spinning. I dont fish for bass, so Im not sure how to even fish a crank bait. But if youre worried about needing some stretch just use braid and a barrel swivel to a lil longer leader of mono to take the shock of big hits.
More fish please!

I'll toss in my .02 just because when you ask about line, everyone has an answer. Some lines work for some...others don't. All it takes is one bad experience. For spinning, I like McCoy Mean Green in 10 lb. test and Trilene Trans Optic 10 lb. test. I do a lot of bass fishing and these have performed well for me in all aspects. I fish from a tube, so having 12 rods rigged differently with different lines isn't an option. Personally, I don't like braid..but that's just me. There are a lot of good lines out there these days...makes it tough to find one that works for you. To touch on what G-Man said, try it...it works!

I think that falls into the catagory of sniveling whiners doing a little too much wishing.
I kinda figured that but I heard this on a few rivers as to the reason I brough it up in this conversation. I hope it doesn't happen thats for sure.

so the moral to this story is stick to what I have and been using for now I do plan on making a couple adjustments one add braid to one of my bait casters see how that fits my needs and 2 try maxima on a spinning reel see how that works. if I like them I will keep it going if not I will look into Izoline brand.... It is not that I need name brand line I would guess they all work for some reason or another as to why they are still being sold but different regions use different lines one being climate here it is a cooler wetter climate nevada is hot probly alot of the same lines are used in both areas but thats my rationallity on line and what locals use. Just like a review when I am well still searching for a tent I do not want someones review from nevada where it rarely rains I want local Or or Wa reviews as wet weather and durability and ablity to keep me dry.

but please still post thoughts on the different lines as I can still use this as a tool to help decide say a year from now.

thank you all who have posted.

I've used Izorline, Suffix, and Maxima. I like them all, but what is spooled on my Curado's are Izorline. When I had to spool up Mono on my Spinning reel, I spooled the Suffix Elite. I hooked into a Sturgeon last year and fought it for about 2 minutes before it broke me off: on 8lb test fyi.

I highly recommend PowerPro for braid, the other brands aren't as good.

Yeah, memory is a given with any nylon mono. I have observed that Sufix, both Elite and Siege seem to resist acquiring memory the best for me on both spinning and casting reels from 8 - 12# tests that I have tried. If cover isn't an issue, go Elite. If you need to the abrasion resistance or toughness go with Siege. Surprisingly however, they have the same diameter.:cyclops:

Not reall sure I can go with that. I've been using Tufline forever and the one time I tried Power Pro it started shedding crap all over the place. Some sort of coating, it got all over everything.... yuk...

I'll stick with Tufline.... Western Filament, been making fish line in the good old USA unlike the Power Pro, straight from China.
