Mt. Persis Rd Closure near Index

Just a heads up for anyone that hike or fish the Lake Cavanaugh area near Index off Forest Service Rd 62. Emergency closure has been issued by the FS by request of Longview Fibre and the gate will be closed at Hwy 2. Mike C wasn't there a clean up or group activty up there 3-4 years back? I know something, but I'm drawing a blank. The primary reason Longview wants the gate locked is people are shooting up there. No signs say you can't and there's really nothing that tells people who the land belongs too. It's a Forest Service road, so you might think it's public land. Longview Fibre owns most of the land up there though. The road has stayed a FS road to access the Mt Persis trail and Mt Index area.

Cavanaugh is a sweet little lake that doesn't see a lot of use. I see there hasn't been a fishing report logged for 5 years!....wow. I've been in communication with both the FS and Longview land manager, so I'm hoping we can stir up enough interest to prevent a permanent closure. I'm organizing a clean up and campout June 27-28th, so if anyone is interested come on up. It's a shame to lose another fine area to access.
