Northwest Fishing Reports

So....Not really a secret lake. So I have heard the fishing there is pretty bad, but we are meeting some friends up there for the weekend, as they will already be in the area. Anybody fish it lately? Having any luck?

hit the easton ponds, about 2 miles east. you will have much much better luck. they also have a juvi lake with landlocked salmon if you have any kids going with you.

Lake Easton is a bummer, but the Yakima river is right outside of the state park.

Easton ponds are ok, last summer every time I went there all I caught was little dinky trout and tons and tons and TONS of northern pikeminnow. But still fun.

I fished the Easton Ponds last weekend. I caught two dink trout and released them. The ponds produce fairly well . The best pond for me is the pond on Thrall Road. I' ve caught nice size and firm trout there. Lake Easton 's been poisoned too many times.

The State stopped stocking Easton quite a while ago due to pressure from groups like TU. It used to be a wonderful fishery but it's also part of the head waters of the Yak so they figured that closing the barn door after stocking it for 60 years or so would save the "Native" population of rainbows for the then newly created "Blue Ribbon, Trout Stream" known as the Yak. Hahahahaha Nature always has a way so now they just stock all the ponds along side the river, all of which have creeks connecting them to the river. In days gone by I've caught Browns, Brooks, Cutts and Bows there (Easton). I'd try the streams coming into the lake, you have a better chance than most swinging a fly as there are no stockers in sight. If you want to catch trout, as the others have said, hit the ponds, just before dark. The river in the afternoon is really nice. If you're lucky, you could even hook into one of those big native browns ( ) that move between the river and the ponds. Regardless of the fishing, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time there, the East slop is one of my favorite places to play. You can always head up towards Stampede for a little exploring, lots of small lakes up there.

Yeah, I read that about that about the stoppage in stocking. An update on this, restrictions on Easton now limit motor size to 8 hp or less, and an FYI, Lake Cle Elum is closed due extremely low water levels. Going to bag the trip.
