I dont know why that wouldnt work. So when want to get the crawdads out or rebait the pot do you have to untie all 3 pieces of rope. Last night I was messing with mine. What I did was got a hair pony and cut it so it was one long piece, tied hooks (not fishing hooks) to each end and kind of bungie the pot together, no nots to untie just undo the bungie. I hope it is biodegradeable. I had a bunch of rope in my bach yard expieramenting, but I really dont want to untie a knot every time, so I tried a real bungie cord, didnt work to well, But the pony looks like it will hold pretty well

Yes with my idea you do have to replace the cord loops each time you bait the pot but the butchers twine is free.

I think I know what your doing but I'm not quite sure what a hair pony is?

Post some pics if you can I would appreciate it.

Sorry bigastrout, but Im not too good with a computer, in fact I dont know a thing about comps.#-o. So a picture of my pot isnt looking too promising LOL . But what I was refering to is a hair tie, you know what people use to put there hair in a pony tail. They probally arent even called hair ponys, I dont even know where I came up with "hair pony" ?!?

gpc I doubt those hair ties are going to be seen as biodegradable untreated cotton but if you tied one end of the hair tie to the pot with cotton cord and used a hook on the other side a think that would qualify for the biodegradable device rule.

Nice! I was just looking around for how to make those crawfish pots meet the escape hatch rule. That's one question answered.

My other question is what are you guys doing to meet the weighted line and buoy rule? What type of buoy are you using? The crab pot ones just seem too big.

"Buoy lines must be weighted sufficiently to prevent them from floating on the surface."

I use a crab pot bouy. Its a lot bigger size than you need, but it gets the job done. I was just going to tie my extra rope around the bouy and tie it in a not

For a buoy line weight, use the standard line weight that is for a crab line. It will be in the crab pot section at any sporting goods store. It will keep the line vertical to the surface and you won't have to mess around with tying things up.

I saw those and ended up making my own mini version for the crawfish trap using an extra crawfish trap clip and a 3oz sinker. I made 2 for less that the price of one crab pot line weight.

"Buoys must be constructed of durable material (no bleach, antifreeze, detergent bottles, paint cans, etc.) and must be visible on the surface at all times except during extreme tidal conditions."

Would a 2-liter bottle meet these requirements? It seems like it would, but I'm concerned about people thinking it's trash floating in the lake. I'm trying to avoid buying a large $5 crab float for my little $8 traps.

Unless your going to watch you 2 liter bottle all day I would buy a nice bouy. I would think it was trash and try to pull it out of the lake. Plus a bouy you know is going to do its job, unlike a 2 liter bottle with a good wave might turn over and sink. Go for the bouy and shop around a bit.
JMHO.
