Northwest Fishing Reports

Has anybody used these anywhere, but particulary on Rufus for trout? ( i meant the post title to say Spinner baits)

I had read something from a guide or someone who swore by them for large trout on Rufus,, yeah, i know spinnerbait=bass, but doesn't have to be.

I bought the whole lot.

Probably work real well too up in the shallows for small bass...

When you get em I'd like to know if they are made with the same thin wire as the regular Rooster Tail Spinners.. Hopefully not.

Your'e absolutely right in wondering that. Back like 1977 regular rooster tails were da bomb for trout, and I don't remember any quality control issues. But it seems like at least 5 years back or so, I bought some and couldn't believe how flimsy the construction (wiring) was, and even the fly material was put together poorly. Maybe because these are called "Super" Rooster tails... maybe they will be better made.

When i 1st read the topic heading i pictures a big hard swimbait with some sort of rooster tail on the end.... Roostertails work great for all freshwater species in my experience...I love the way the track true and look in the water

I've used (Super Rooster Tails) at Rufus Woods a few times. Cast them from boat to shore and did pick up a couple of 18" to 20" native Rainbows. Right now I'm into trolling with some new custom flies and dropping a few jigs that I picked up the other day.

when i use to trout fish my and my buddy use to troll with flosting blach and red wooly buggers. we would catch some nice rainbows and some big german browns...

Super rooster-tails do use the thin wire. Because the spinner is placed differently then an in-line version, bent wire does not stop them from spinning like it can on the in-lines, but....................

I find that they catch nor more fish then the originals, and they snag more then a normal overhead spinner bait.

I guess I would not be giving them a 5 star rating.

These have been around for many years. Yes they do catch fish. I have never used them at the roof but think they would dive deeper to reach the bottom.

They work great on Rufus. Stay in the 1/4oz range and cast toward shore. Any color works as along as it is black.
