What is a good M/H trolling rod in your opinion

Post by Gonefishing » Mon Aug 26, 2013 11:50 am

If you read my Area 10 Fishing report post earlier today (08/25/2013) I had a Lamaglas rod altered from a 2 piece rod to a 3 piece. The rod was 8' 6" and as I noted in that post IT WAS NOT my favorite pole. I realize that the rod has a lifetime warranty against defects but I first have to find the receipt (good luck on my half here). I'm considering going to 9' or 9'6", I'm not sure if a 10" would fit in the car easily.

My budget hasn't been set yet but I'd like to keep the costs under $150.00. The Lamiglas wasn't cheap so I'm hoping while moping that I do find the receipt and then decide do I send it back for repair/replacement. The real I'm using is a Shimano Tekota 500 Levelwind.

On top of everything else, I don't really want to change my Gloomis casting rod into my primary trolling rod if I don't have to. So my question is what brand/model do you prefer? And a short reason of why.

take a look at the shimano convergence or clarus line both have over the counter lifetime warranties.
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga, except i still get to kill something.

I fish with Fetha Styx 9'3 8-20lb Downrigger rod and love it. Its rated mod/med and might be a little lighter than what you're looking for but I've never had a bad experience.

I run the Fetha Styx Chrome rods, but take a serious look at the new Diawa DR rods in 10'6" for 100$ they are a steal!

@Spokey9: I actually was considering both of those rods before the season started as potential trolling rods. They aren't out of my price range and still being considered (assuming I can find somebody who has them in stock right now).

I might look at the Diawa as well.... still searching.
