Hello all, new to the site and been doing a lot of archiving/research. Originally from Olympia, went to OHS and moved down to Southern California after I got out of the Army. Grew up fishing the lakes, rivers and salt. Down here, been doing a lot of saltwater bass fishing. Calicos and sandbass.
I'm gonna go visit my parents for a week 8/13-8/20 with one of my friends and would really love to get in on some Cbass fishing. I used to walk the Westport south jetty with my dad growing up. We'd catch a few Cbass and if we were lucky a ling. But I can barely remember those days. I do remember we used pink saltwater grubs. Im pretty sure we'll be launching the boat out of WP and do some salmon trolling, unless the regs change. Trollings fun and all, but would really like to get into a good Cbass bite. How's the Cbass bite in August at the jetty? or any where else we could go? My dad has a 19' Trophy with not enough range to go tuna fishing, but he goes out west to 250' pretty often for the salmon. He doesn't have any ideas of where to get Cbass except for the jetty.
Any tips on places to go, baits, sizes, bait colors, would be much appreciated. I've seen the vid by Nate and Mike and it got me pretty pumped. And that huge ling, shu got off the jetty in the "jetty opener" Thread was rediculious. I pour my own swimbaits so I was trying to figure out some color combinations/ sizes that would work. Poured some 5" dark purple back with a clear with purple and black flake belly swimbaits that came out really nice. Also plan on making a some sort of pink one and a pearl one.
Haven't been home for 7 years so I'm pretty excited. Hopefully we can figure out a game plan.

Just got back from my trip. The first day we fished salmon in the morning for only 2 small hatchery cohos. Weather came up so we moved in to try out the westport jetty. Right off the bat my buddy gets a small cbass, 3#er then on the next cast gets a small ling 25"er which we released. He then continues his tear and gets 2 more cbass, one of which is anice 5#er and 3 big lings 12-15#s. I did get mine also. With a big 14# ling, another small 24" ling released, a huge cbass 8#er and a cab. This was the most amazing fishing I had ever seen or had at the jetty. This was all in about 1 1/2hrs. Unreal.
The next few days we spent catching a ton of cohos ended up withe 23 cohos and one white king small 10#er. Most of the silers wer 6-10#s with the bigger ones around 12#s being wild. Did fish the jetty a few more times for a few more lings in the 12-15# range and a few cbass. Anyways great trip and can't wait to go back. Thanks for those who gave some info. All the lings and cbass were caught on 5 1/2 baits I poured

What did you catch the coho on?

The cohos were caught on a coho fly my buddy tied green/white. Coyote spoons 6.0 army truck and cop car. Cop car working better on days with no sun. Soon as the sun came out the army truck was killing it. Also green label herring. Varied between using fashers on the dr with 40-110 ft of spectra in 150 ft of water and straight deep six to a spoon or herring. They all got bit. Just had to keep changing out rigs when one would stop getting bit. Herring wasn't nessary, but rather have it than not.
