Just passing this along to anyone who's interested. If you are in the market for a really decent rifle scope at a decent price, check this out. Last year I purchased a Simmons Whitetail Classic 3.5-10X40 from Cabelas and found it to be as bright, clear, accurate and distortion-free as my Nikon scopes. The camera quality lenses they use are awesome! So, when MidwayUSA had another "run" on Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5-20X50 w/AO scopes, at $99, I just had to check one out based on customer reviews on that site. WOW!!! This is the best $99 I've ever spent on optics and I can't believe the quality of this scope! MidwayUSA had it to me via USPS for only $6 or so. Now, before I go any further, I must state that these are made with Japanese glass and are assembled in the Philippines. They stand head and shoulders above those sub-standard, raggedy-ass Simmons scopes that come out of Communist China.
I mounted it on a Savage 110 30-06 and after obtaining a 2" high zero @ 100 yards, I was regularly busting clay pigeons (sporting clays) at 200 and 250 yards. This was from the prone from off a bipod. I had the scope set on 14X and 16X....it was as though those clays were only 75 yards away! I didn't even try 18 and 20 power, didn't need it! And once again, the sight picture was as clear and crisp as that I get in my Nikon scopes due to the adjustable objective. Now I'm getting another one for my .243, a much flatter shooting weapon than the 30-06.
With hunting season coming on, I just figured I'd pass this along to my fellow WashLakes.com members. If interested, go to MidwayUSAs site and research it yourself under their optics category....they have about 40 customer reviews, nearly all of which are 4 and 5 star ratings. If you want a great scope at a great price then you owe it to yourself to check this out. Midway only runs this a couple times a year due to limited availability and the present $99 sale ends on September 31.
P.S. You will need high or extra high rings due to the 50MM objective lens.
