Sounds insane to me. I support the Humane Society and I hope they use the money in a more constructive manner. Microsofts' hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations is just a drop in the bucket again the BILLIONS that American sportsmen/women put into the U.S. economy every year. It's simple economics......
Thanks for your useless donations, Microsoft!!!

There's two "Humane Societies". There's the one we all know and love, aka the ASPCA and the other one, the Humane Society of the US which is a PETA clone. One needs to differentiate which is which. I hope Microsoft didn't donate to the wrong one thinking it was the other.

Looks like it's the bad one...I mean the Humane Society of the United States.

What the real motivation is is to get everyone to use Windows Live Messenger.
So really Microsoft isn't donating - it is the user making a donation from a list of charities. Microsoft is just trying to get more users. Yahoo, AOL, and Gmail chat must be making an impact.According to the Animal Agriculture Alliance, Microsoft will be making donations to the Humane Society of the United States. It involves a pilot program called the ''i’m Initiative.'' Whenever a Windows Live Messenger user has a conversation using i’m, Microsoft will give a portion of the program’s advertising revenue to one of 10 organizations that the user selects. HSUS is among the choices, and there is no limit to the amount of money that can be received.

Actually, I'd say that the article is somewhat misleading. According to the IM site, Microsoft has raised just under $93K to donate between 10 different orginizations. And the amount that the orginization gets depends how many users pick that orginization as their cause. And, it's only based on the number of conversations that user starts. So, its considerably less. Nobody on my list has picked the Humane Society. Honestly, there's far better causes in the IM initiative than the Humain Society. Only slightly worse is the Stop Global Warming Now and Sierra Club orginizations. But of course, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't make a fuss over the poor choice of "Humane Societies". It's obvious to me that some hair-brained dork picked the orginizations (well, they got a few good ones there, but those are obvious).Toni wrote:What the real motivation is is to get everyone to use Windows Live Messenger. So really Microsoft isn't donating - it is the user making a donation from a list of charities. But I would say it is Microsoft that's donating. I bet it'll be on their taxes that they donated.
