A lot of people are saying that this story is unbelievable. The pictures are photoshopped and the boy didn't kill it. What do think?
I believe it is completely true. And amazing! I would have sh!t myself if I came across something like that.

When interviewed, someone asked the boy, "what are you going to do with the meat?" The boys reply, "sausages, lots of saugage."

Here it is, believe it or not - http://www.monsterpig.com/

I know the gun that he used was made for elephant hunting. Iv also seen some huge pigs but never that big. But Im not a pig hunter so I dont know how big they get, but I do know how powerful that gun is and that pistol could do the job. But I would imagine that pig is a world record if it is true

first of all, the premise of the question is incorrect..

The boy didn't kill the pig.. .the bullet did....

bullet will act the same no matter who pulled the trigger..

discussion should be of the firearm and the cartridge used for the kill....

not of the boy...

Your right littleriver as always.:thumright
I just got done reading all the negative comments posted on that website. Hilarious!
As the story goes, he found the pig taking a bath in a swamp, tracked it for 3 hours, shooting it 11 times in that time frame before it died. A whole lot of lead went into that beast.

Being a butcher, I know that the older a hog gets, the worse tasting it becomes, especially if it is a boar... I cannot even begin to fathom how nasty that thing would taste! YUCK! Although, seeing a pig the size of a beef is quite impressive, Dang!

Its hard for me to believe that an 11 year old boy could fire a .50cal handgun that many times.

Yeah, well, littleriver....how many people here would honestly have not soiled themselves trying to track/kill that thing? Especially with the threat of it going violent at any time? And really, how many people could track a hog for three hours? Those things are fast.

Ok.. I finally read the web page...

this is rather impressive... when I first saw the picture I assumed
it was taken on some kind of african safari........

though i suspect the kids father or some relative was backing him
up it was still some kind of feat...

go jimmy (or whatever the kid's name is)...

and I'm definitely going to be more careful next time
I go hiking in the backwoods of tennessee.....

And that matters why???

trust me.. it matters Sam...

to say you killed something leaves totally open the issue of
whether you killed it with your bare hands, with a sword, knife, or spear, or
with some kind of firearm.....

and even within the context of using a firearm there are a lot of possibilities..

When I first saw the photo I assumed it was something out of Africa.. one of those deals where
you hire a guide and the guide takes you to a tree stand while a couple of zimbabwe's tie a live
goat to a big stake..... great white hunter, backed up by the guide and from the safety of the tree stand, waits for something to come along and "bang" it's dead..... even with something that big that kind of story isn't all that impressive even though
the picture might be......

I finally read the web page account though and, if true, what the 11 year old did was kind of impressive... not sure if I would have continued to track after I knew I had wounded it once or twice....

of course, now that I look closer at the picture it seems like the boy is in much greater focus than the "beast"... this is a sign of "picture tampering"... either way this kid seems to have a bright future... if the story is true then he's going to be a great one to have on the front lines in the war on terror.. if not, then he definitely has some talent in the area of computer graphics and image technology.....

If you think he killed it with his bare hands your crazy...And no one goes with a sword to kill giant hogs....

Seriously it was just the discussion topic, not the entire body of the topic....
He can specify the rest of the details in the body of the topic, he doesn't need to say "11 year old boy kills 1100 lb hog with .50 cal handgun in Alabama on his own."

Here is my two cents. There are two sides to the firearms issue. Littleriver exposes one legitimate side of the argument. Republicans tend to argue that "the hunter killed the animal," whereas democrats tend to argue that "the bullet killed the animal." Let me note that this is not always the case, but undeniably is the trend. That said, let me expose the other side of the argument. I believe the mentality that "the bullet killed the animal" is a cop out, and quite dangerous. Let me explain my logic. Did the bullet come out of the air and magically kill the animal? No, it most certainly did not. It came from a gun, which was linked to the hunter. The hunter "intended" to kill the pig. Had he used his bare hands and wrestled the beast until it was dead (if he didn't die in the process, lol) he still would have killed it. If he had a machete and slit its throat, he still would have killed the beast. When one says things like "the knife killed the pig," or "the bullet killed the pig," they are taking the responsibility away from the hunter. In a way, these statements desensitize the fact that the hunter was responsible for the animals death. These statements seem like something one would tell the hunter if he felt guilty for his actions. “It’s ok Timmy, you didn’t kill the pig, it was the bullet.” This is my point, the action of killing is placed onto the bullet, not the hunter, which is scary in my mind. My question is, what type of message is this sending to our young hunters, and children? To a young mind, it replaces the feeling of guilt, and or respect , that the child should have for the animal they have killed, and replaces it with a feeling of justification towards the child’s actions. In other words, the child can tell himself its OK that he killed an animal, because it wasn’t him that killed it. It was the bullet. BAD BULLET. BULLET, YOU ARE GROUNDED, GO TO YOUR ROOM IMMEDIATELY. NO SUPPER FOR YOU! Weapons do not have minds of their own, thus they cannot be held responsible for killing someone or something.

I understand this is a stretch, but I’m doing it deliberately to make a point. When we hear in the news that a person is killed, they do not say, “a 50 caliber bullet killed a woman in an ally,“ or “woman found in an ally when a knife stabbed her out of nowhere.” News anchors say things like, “husband shoots wife in a midnight argument,” or “unnamed assailant stabs woman in an ally.”

If we place the blame on the weapon/ bullet, what type of message are we sending our children. In a world where things like the Virginia Tech massacre occurred, I don’t think we need to be validating that it was “the weapons fault.” We need to put MORE emphasis behind the person that shot the gun, swung the knife, etc. If we can make individuals feel more responsible for their actions, perhaps violence will decrease in the U.S.

That is my two cents. I do not mean to offend anyone. You guys on this site all rock, every last one of you. Peace out! Oh, weren't we discussing a HUGE HOG, lol! Yikes, I think we derailed.

I'd be a lot less skeptical about this if the pictures were better than e-mail quality. I'm not saying these photos were photoshopped or tampered with, but at that resolution they EASILY could of been. As an extremely skeptical human being if I had to say these pictures were legitimate or fake I'd say fake. I mean that is a BIG PIG, Hogzilla realistically weighed about 800 pounds, this one is said to weigh 1,051. So that's about 24% bigger than any wild hog shot in America. In my mind that'd be like eclipsing the current largemouth bass record (22 lbs 4 oz.) with a bass weighing nearly 30 pounds!... It won't happen, and if it did you better show me something better than four photos that look like they were taken on a disposable camera to convince me.

In reply to Fish-or-man?:
Well here is a picture of a 25lb 1oz bass that big bass hunter Mac Weakley got out of Dixon Lk in Cali last March.
That would have easily eclipsed the world record bass mark if it had not been foul hooked.
So I do think there is potential for any species under the right conditions to grow to enormous sizes. Look at humans, do you think years ago they thought a person could weigh over a 1000lbs?
I dunno, I will believe it's true until proven otherwise.

good discussion and good points in your treatise beerman.... very well written and thought out....

I actually agree fully with your position... I was just looking at it from a different perspective..

How sensitive we have become to want to initially want to lay blame for the death of any animal though...

my post was from the perspective of rewarding credit and ignored the issue of "blame..... if the story and picture are true I will have nothing but praise and compliment for the boy in the picture.... there are many ways to kill animals and I firmly believe it is the right of humans to kill them if we choose and if it serves our purposes..... in most instances the notion of "blame" would only enter into the discussion, in my way of thinking, if we were talking about killing another human or an animal that was the property of another human....
