Has anyone used any of the Cabela's LST series fly rods? Opinions?

RE:Cabela's LST Series Fly Rods
Marc,
Comparing rods is a very individual thing. I tend to go for "fast action" rods because most of my fishing is with weighted lines. I also have what could be called a "compact stoke" when casting.
I recently purchased a new rod and looked at the LST and the FT rods by Cabela's. I had business in Boise and went to the Cabela's there. They had 5 WTs of each set up for casting in the store. I liked both rods a lot. I almost purchased the FT.
The LST is comparable to a "med-fast" or "mid-flex" Orvis rod. The build and overall quality of the Cabella rods is very good and when the local store opens I might be "talked into" buying one.
I also "short-listed" the ECHO 2 rods and Temple Fork TiCrX rods. The ECHO 2 rods come with two different tip sections, one marked "Distance" and the other "Accuracy" I didn't see much of a difference in the two though.
In the end I settled on a Powell Ti Boron II 6 WT rod. I saw them in Sacramento at an outdoor show and loved the action.....and the price. If you are looking for a "fast action" rod that doesn't sacrifice "feel" the Powell rods are great. I think they have come out with a replacement model called the TiBoron XL and the price is now around $290.00
I also use extensively a Temple Fork Outfitter's TiCr 5 WT. This is a great rod.....it may not have the finish of the Powell or Cabela rods, but it is a very good fast action rod and a great value at less than $200.00.
Good luck!

I've had two Cablea's rod, the first meet a early death via a car door, but I currently have a 3 weight PT that I love. They are exactly the same as Fenwick HMG's but about half the price. When I bought my last one about 8 years ago the Cabela's rod was $175, and the Fenwick was about $300. My had a 5 year no question asks repair or replace warrenty

RE:Cabela's LST Series Fly Rods
I have heard that Cabela's rods are pretty good for the money. I am planning on going for Muskies next spring, so I need an 8 wt. rod. Cabela's has a LST rod/LSR reel combo listed for $280.00 According to their specs, it is a fast action rod. The large arbor reel also has a carbon drag.
I don't want to put a great deal of money into the setup at first. I've got to learn how and where to catch a Muskie on a fly first, then maybe I will upgrade. The new adventure should be fun and challenging.

RE:Cabela's LST Series Fly Rods
When I got to see the Cabela rods in person I was impressed with the consistency and quality. At the price point they are a great value when compared to the "premium" rods.
As for the LST being "fast action"; compared to both my Powell Ti Boron II and TFO TiCr the LST wouldn't be considered "fast action". I think that term has become a "buzz" word to describe any rod that isn't a noodle. Cabela's FT is considerable more stiff or "fast" than the LST at least the 5 WT's that I tested. I'm sure the new store in Post Falls will have all of their rods set up for casting in the store (they did at the Boise store). At the grand opening they are going to have some daily sales that could bring the combo you noted down 25% or so ( a little inside info from someone I know that will be working as an advisor to the fly fishing department) so keep your eyes peeled for that promo!
Anyway, good luck and you might want to consider a 10 WT for those Muskies.....they can get pretty big.
Tight Lines!
