salmon/steelhead twitchin' jig colors

Post by Brat Bonker » Mon Jun 04, 2012 8:40 pm

Hey I was thinking about tying more jigs up during summer break and I was wandering if you guys had any good color ideas for coho, chinook, or steelhead. What really fired this up in my mind was watching a guy last weekend catch 2 springer and a huge summer run twitching a jig at barrier. I already know the basic technique but just want know some good colors for my twitching and any other tips or reports would be great too.

When all else fails pink seems to be the most consistent.

Black and purple. Red. But colors may be dependent on different rivers. Were these guys twitching or jerking?

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

At least the fish is right side up. But he also didn't answer my question as per par.

No this guy was just flicking the wrist, using a chartreuse jig, every single fish was inside the mouth, his buddy was using a orange jig and did not catch any thing and saw someone down there fishing next to me with the same reel as slayerthat but a little shorter rod. Any more good colors???
What do you use slayer for those twitched springers, plus I think jigs are illegal at barrier, too. not sure

I've caught a king and several coho twitching pink jigs for pinks. I've heard green and purple are good for coho also.

Yeah pink is an all around good color for everything that runs in rivers. I really want to try twitching for steelhead, boy that just sounds fun, all ready got a couple holes in my mind just need good color combos so I can be confident in what I choose.

Hey slayer, I think I am just simply not casting where they are at and in front of their faces or have the right rigs, PM me if you don't mind sharing some for the barrier dam fish.
