Nooch steelheading

I know this can be a touchy question as well as the satsop to some especially locals so PMs are accepted.
I was thinking of giving the nooch a try for steelheading until september and was wondering what are some good stretches to try and good riggs to use. Also how to you get to the barrier dam/ wynoochee dam? I will be bank fishing and more than likely float fishing or drifting eggs/pink worms.

The 7400 bridge (bob's bridge) has some really good water to fish above it and some reasonable water below. Up further at the fish collecter, you just drive up Wynoochee Road until you see the signs for the fish collection facility, it's a parking lot and a road right there. It's like 30 miles up the road nearly to the lake. You'll walk down the hill from the lot and access the river from there, you can walk downstream a ways, there is lots of nice water. The Wynoochee has been good to me lately, so it's worth the trip. Keep a lookout for searun cutts as well, we've caught some nice sized ones up there. The Satsop is a lot of fun, a good access is from the state park and you can walk down, lots of water to fish. There is a lot of private land there, so you'll find access to some of the really nice holes to be nearly impossible short of drifting the river. Although I have friends who do it in a tube in the summer. You can find a couple turnouts on the road to the south of the river that you'll find access to.

thanks guys, yeah I have fished the satsop before mostly from a boat but banked at s curves before but not too many hatchery fish in that river though.
Tried to find 7400 today but boy that was hard and just gave up. I like fishing at black ck mostly have not really tried anywhere else though.
Any good jig colors for the nooch in summer or even in winter?

Come on bb, your thinking about steel when the skok opens in 5 days ! I took my boat out trolling today by the mouth of the skok, went 12/25. I didnt bring any out of the water unhooked them all right next the side of it great day of fishing

yeah I bet those kings are snatching at anything because normally they would have a million lines swishing by right now. I think I am done with steelheading til thanksgiving, already swapped all my steelhead gear in my vest for kings and coho gear. 4 days til skok, 10 for the quilcene, my body is shaking with excitement except I have a driving test on the 10th atleast then I can drive my self to the skok and quil

wish i was there for the opening! I am not really a fan of gamefishin.com, but i know that according to their annonymous reports that people were already screwing with the kings last week when it was still open for game fish. Seriously wish i was there on the 10th, but i will be stuck in canada. Hopefully i will be out there on monday.... Goodluck to you guys!

Ive caughten chrome kings in september as well, theres gonna be plenty of fish !

Been told by residents in that area that it is stacked wall to wall of bright fish. I will be hitting a couple of spots up a bit to avoid the crowds, well the larger crowds. Good luck to all that go and remember has to be in the mouth on the Skok, no more head shots!!!

Wouldn't it be cool if they put the same regs on the Skok as they did on the Samish?

Oh jeeze. if everything had to be under a float on the skok, that would make it a whole new fishery ! LOL
I dont see many guys use more then one hook though although ive seen a few

it would be a new fishery it will finally become a fishery and not a snaggery or flossery. Boy that would also trim down the crowds as well. Except for those who like to drift fish eggs like me will be screwed.
Now changing the max leader length to 3ft will really stir things up.

LOL, that would definetly be a sight. I dont mind fishin with the crowds it can be funny sometimes, but its more fun just chillin with your buddies out there, ive caughten fish out there on a 3ft leader. It aint that hard, maybe if your a snagger or a flosser

How did the Nooch thread turn into a Skok thread? Not even in the same ballpark! It's hard to compare wild and scenic to a riverside barbeque with all your closest friends and their entire family. We go to each river for different things. A day on the skokomish is a lot of fun, and there are plenty of fish to go around but on the Wynoochee, you're fishing a different kind of water by yourself.

wait what about the nooch, oh thats right I guess I got some bad case of the skoks or something, yeah I think I am done steelheading til thanksgiving but thanks for all the help that was given about nooch or satsop or humptulips steelheading. I just need to feel something heavy on my line other than a dogfish from the local marina and something less acrobatic. Yep I have king fever, darn again.

Every where that has steelhead in it right now are like 1 1/2hours+ from my house while the skok is like 45-50 min, gorst is 15min and quilcene is 35-40min away.
Hey nate ever had any luck with spinners or spoons in inlet for kings if so what are some good colors, I might give it a whirl at the floss fest of gorst or something.
