Just turned on the news to channel 2.

In downtown somewhere Mount Vernon with people and cars in the water.

between mt vernon and burlington. at least 2 cars in the water, no people in the water so they say, some people WERE in the river, but must have gotten out.

I just now checked this website to see if there was any jibber jab about the I-5 bridge collapse......Yep!

Man, all the focus on the Alaskan way viaduct and it's unhealthy state. Then, a I-5 bridge collapses!

In the back ground. I can hear Dan the man Louise reporting on ch 4, that some people are standing on the top of there cars. Waiting for a rescue!

I hope no one is hurt, but the sad matter is this and more are just waiting to happen. If I remember correctly there was something like 700 odd bridges that need repair or maintenance in King county alone. Can you imagine how many people could be put to work in our state by fixing and maintaining out infrastructure ? Well maybe it time to toll all the bridges as we have to find the money to fix them.

They said that the bridges of Wa. got graded a d in the study a year or so ago, another station said a c minus. Still not very good at all.

Hovercraft going around checking the cars and bridge. They went UNDER the next span over, that would sure scare me to go under a span after the first span collapsted.

Sounds like a truck with oversized load hit the bridge made it accross then it collapsed.

That's what they just said on ch 7 news, witnesses on the bridge at the moment said a wide load semi hit a girder and the bridge collapsed.

They just said over hight and maybe over wide load.

Just reported from Burlington Police - No fatalities known.

ch 7 is showing a truck with a pilot car in front of it pulled over/stopped on the hiway that officers are taking pictures so it might be the one.

edit: Truck was headed southbound and stopped just off the south end of the bridge. Has a 'wide load' sign on the pilot car. Lots of flashing yellow lights on the truck, indication of a BIG vehicle.

sounds like king 5 is covering better. already had the guy on the phone who saw the oversized rig hit support beams and watched the metal folding in his rear view mirror. He didn't relize the bridge actually fell until an hour later. However he witnessed the whole thing. He was a lane over and behind pilot car(for oversized load) with the oversized load in his rearview mirror.
