Twitchin Jigs... Gotta Have em!

Last couple of years fishing for coho, especially coho that are not moving and Holding in backwaters and pools, I have noticed that many of them are lockjaw on many different systems. This year so far the same thing on the skagit. Many backwaters i have fished are full of rolling coho, but eggs, spinners, spoons, yields limited success. This year is the first year I have really gave twitching Jigs a really good try. And man am I glad I did. They have saved the day many times this year when the fish were seemingly lockjaw. Pull out the twitching Jigs and I've hit up to 10 fish in a row after throwing everything in my box. Now, my Coho box consists of a few spoons and spinners and 50+ twitching Jigs. Throw different colors at them, different shapes and keep changing it up and they seem to keep biting. They don't work well in fast-moving water, but any slow water, backwaters, sloughs where we all know coho love to sit... Give them a try. Dont leave home without them for coho! They have proven themselves time and time again! 3/8 or 1/2 ounce in black/purple. Blue/black. Pink/black. Red/orange/black. All those combos have caught em for me!

Went out with Danny of River Chrome Guide service the other day and all I can say is W@W! Danny was a great guy and a great fisherman. We had our 7 (could've had 10) in an hour and a half leaving one spot open just in case we caught a monster. Low and behold we got one more beautiful wild male to fill our limits. We fished eggs and twitchin jigs which are my favorite and had a blast! Danny was very professional and put me on fish right away. He has my highest recommendation and I will definitely be fishing with him again. Give him a call if you want to catch lots of fish

Bmastro777 I agree with you Danny is a DAMM good fisherman. He got me into my 1st ever King. Hope to get out with him again someday. Want to learn how he bobber dogs! Probably winter steel time!

Yea i gave jigs a try for the first time yesterday and hit these two bucks! Straight black with a bubblegum pink worm trailer, and pink/light pink with a bubble gum pink xfactor miracle worm trailer!

Twitchin Jigs LIGHTING THEM UP the last 2 days on the Skagit. Blue/Black 1/2 ounce was unstoppable

Nice fish! Started using crappie/bass tubes on jigheads this year and has been working great for coho. Helps the wallet too, if you happen to lose a few.

I see a lot of talk about the jigs and twitching them. It seems to me that most posts and people who use this method do so from a boat. I am bank bound and curious if you can employ a "modified" twitch in the drift? Or should you only use this from the bank in more froggy water? I think you have to have a more vertical presentation, so this may not work from the bank.

Any ideas or success with this?

Maybe I should stick to spoons until I get a good float rod setup.

Works good from the bank. That's where I do most of my fishing. I usually fish froggier water, but you can catch them in the faster stuff too, just need to look for the pockets & current breaks.

You don't need a float rod or a boat to twitch jigs. Although best suited for frog water, slow current, and/or deeper holes, they can still be used in faster current and around structures in the river just as well. I find I employ a shallower/faster jig when fishing areas that are more shallow and will tend to "drift twitch" on those that have moderate current where I don't reel as much since the current will take up the line slack between jigs.

I'm heading to Sportsmans Warehouse on lunch to pick up some twitchin jigs. Gonna try them out on the Green tomorrow for some piggy silvers. Interested to see how it goes. I've watched several videos to learn the technique and have been practicing the wrist twitch in my garage. Will post back in this thread to let you guys know how it goes. Every website I've been to so far has nothing but good things to say about twitchin jigs above all other methods (in the right water conditions). The Green is pretty slow and the spot I fish has plenty of trees and wood along the banks so it should be the perfect scenario.

were these vids on youtube? Interested to know if they were bank twitching? I have a few spots on the Carbon that would be good. I think there are a few silvers still in they system. I may even have to venture out to the green since the carbon is still a bit higher than normal, but there are plenty of slower spots.

Yes, on youtube. Some were on the bank, some were on boats...but even the guys in boats were doing it in rivers and there was a current. The technique was effective. Just got back from Sportsmans Warehouse. Picked up a variety of colors...we'll see what happens tomorrow!
