making a fishfinder portable?

Post by ruthven78 » Wed Jul 18, 2007 10:31 am

Since I only have a 12' aluminum rowboat to use, I was curious, couldnt I just take a fish finder and mount it to a pole to make it portable? I've seen units like the Bottom Line Fishing Buddy and was thinking, why couldnt a regular fish finder be mounted on a pole like the Fishing Buddy? The cheapest Fishing Buddy is only $99 at Cabela's but my dad has one he doesnt use (one of the older suction cup models).

Hey Ruthven i was thinking of doing the same with my pontoon boat .. but i had a different spin on it .. im thinking of mounting a 12" pole to the framing and clip on the transducer on in it so that all i have to do is connect the dept finder to the battery and just simply lower the the pole in the water .. that way im having this long pole handing from the side .. id you have a trolling moter onthat boat you can clip on the trans to it as well .. just a few ideals ... BBD :-"

I've got a Eagle 480 that I made a small bracket for with a couple 1x4's. I have the graph on the top so I can watch real easy and I measured the other 1x4 the lenght to the bottom of my jon boat and set the transduser right on the end like its been put on the back bottom of my boat. Works great!! Also I can just take the whole set up off and use it out ice fishing.

cool i'll also have to mention this to my dad cause the suction cup on his old Eagle doesnt hold suction very long, he should be able to jury rig something up using a pole
