Two of us launched at Keller and headed for Swawilla this AM. Lines in the water by 8 am water temp 61 deg. Wind light out of the south but good chop on the water. Corn on the pink hootchie caught the first 18" Kok at 8:15, 40' deep at 1.5 mph. I thought oh boy they're finally here. Wasn't marking many fish at any depth so I was up and down with the riggers trying to entice some strikes. About 3 hours of nothing, not even the small net pen fish, I put on one of Dave's Pink Kakeda flies with only corn on the treble. Not in the water for a minute and wham, Kok on at 40'. Don't know if he fallowed it down or he was at 40'. He was 19" and in great shape.
Fished until 3:30, water temp was up to 69.1 in the basin. Water turned to glass and only caught two Bows in that 16 to 17" range and again at 40'. We did start marking fish in 70' of water anywhere from 35 to 65' down but could not get them to hit anything. Tried all the tricks but damn couldn't get them interested. Even put the ole worm harness on and nothing.
Water has got to be leveling off, only came up .3 ft yesterday, so it won't be long and they will be schooling up. Can't wait.
