While fishing Medical Lake today, I came across a strange looking contraption out on the lake. The city has just installed the first solar powered aerator on the lake. It is called a Solar Bee and is suppose to help in keeping down the algae bloom. Here is a link to a video on how it works. I believe that they are going to install 2 more on the lake.

Tagged..... i.e. Spraypaint graffiti from a youth of today. A symbol that represents the punk with the spray can.
All that weird squiggly spray painted ( ) really means something.

8-[ Wow, my kids are right! I am "so not with it". I am also one of those old coots:bigsmurf: that still uses the number key pad on a phone to dial a number and actually talk to someone:-"

Come to think of it, Medical Lake has very little if any graffiti around town. Maybe the kids are still carving there initials in park benches.o:)

Kev- You are right, that would be a good area to fish.

Thanks, Marc! I've been looking at that thing for a month now, wondering what the hell it was! I kicked over to it in my pontoon a couple weeks ago and noticed a whirring sound and moving water, but didn't make the connection.

I think it's safe to say it's safe from vandals....too much work getting to it. However, poaching is still a problem (getting to a concealed position at the cliffs isn't hard at all) and will get worse after the October 1 closure of many lowland lakes.

No tagging necessary, go slap a couple of WL.com stickers on that thing. Oh, and make sure you get a pic for the contest. :clown:

That is one weird looking machine. Hopefully it does the trick. They could use a couple on some of lakes around here. Expecially Anderson Lake near Port Towsend. That lake gets so bad it could kill people.

That's a lot of capital into something that may indirectly affect a few. Maybe someone with a bit of history of this lake/area could explain. Cool think. Turnover of the water is a great idea to reduce algea blooms. Does Medical Lake supply drinking water to those who live in its vicinity? I remember reading somewhere about Medical Lake and how it got its name from the mud that healed many folks over the years dealing with rheumatological illnesses. (Perhaps that is another post). Maybe this unit will pay for itself over time. Very sweet picture & informative post.
