and I hate nothing more than watching people cast out and then set the hook EVERY cast.

Usually they set the hook A FEW TIMES each cast. We call them "snaggers" [-x .

"Bobbers Rule Guys?" What the? Snobby elitist? Is there a dead horse around? 10ft leader and 3/0 hook? Use a size 4 hook and 12 ft leader. You'll get em in the mouth every time. Legal.

I very specifically said that I do NOT approve of that, I was simply using it as a reference and I made that very clear. Obviously a 10ft leader and a huge hunk of lead is completely unfair to the fish, just like keeping a foul hooked fish is. However people that group all bottom bouncers together into the flossers and snaggers category are simply ignorant. There are multiple ways to catch any type of fish, and the more of those ways that you are familiar with the better your odds are. I completely agree that you will foul hook more fish while drift fishing, however there are ways to minimize that and alot of it also has to do with standards of conduct that you hold yourself to. Listening to someone talk like they have never hooked a fish anywhere other than the mouth due to the fact that their way of fishing is so much better than everyone elses does start to sound pretty "elitist" after awhile. I love watchin my bobber go down just like anyone else, I'm just sayin that I don't like to limit myself to one type of fishing, and I definitely don't like to act like I'm better than those around me. Like I said before, fishing is supposed to be fun, so lets keep it that way.

Jens: I'm kindof a "lurker" on here but I'm on pretty regularly and can remember when you first started to get into this site and salmon fishing, even before I decided to become a member. You never seemed to be above a corkie and yarn back then...

jtrapier, there is a story behind all of this.. And like Kzoo stated in the early posts, I was mainly talking to guys that I fish with on a regular basis. I still do. We are friends.

Internet forums can be tough to catch sarcasm. And if you just read the babble that goes back and forth, you wouldn't know those guys are my boys. They give me crap about how easy bobber fishing is and I give them crap about the way they fish for Steelhead IMO is flossing.

So take it for what it is- PM me next time instead of calling me out..

Thanks guys, i really dont have anything against bobbers or drifting, i like drifting but bobbers are perfect for half the fishing situations i come across. You need both, i just wanted to know if people really believed all drifters were flossers, which you may not know but a lot of people on my rivers think and believe now. Obviously most of us on this site are a little smarter than that. Thanks

Deal.... Sorry for raggin on ya man, but I was kinda feelin the same way. It seemed like I was catchin alot of flack over nothing. And you're right, it is hard to tell sarcasm sometimes, my bad. I was simply trying to convey that responsible fishing is more important than the method. I know from your reports that you DO fish responsibly and that you also teach your kid to do the same, so I gotta give you props. I have never seen anything but respectable behavior in your reports, which was my point. I don't care how people catch fish as long as they do it legally and with care for the fish and the river. It makes me sick to watch foul hooked fish get drug up on shore and then get kicked back into the water, and have seen it done by people using all methods.

Its cool, I like to floss halibut too. Its super easy just use a 400 foot leader and 2 lbs of lead.

Or 500 to 600 foot leader and pounds a few pounds of lead in a copper pipe and pound it off the bottom.

Picking up the kicker prop tomorrow. Hope to be back in action by Saturday...... Low vis and rocks in the Cow. So much room and I find one! I did make a stop at Cabelas on the way home.......... Light, light, light for the float/floss rod.....

Those are nice Bodo, I just handled one at Johns in Everett, I couldn't cop the 179$ or whatever it was price tag I opted for a 3000 series Sahara for 80$. I picked up a 9'9" bobber/side drifting rod and new reel on Tuesday! All spooled up and ready to floss! :bball:
