Nisqually River to close to recreational fishing
Action: Close Nisqually River to recreational angling.
Effective dates: 12:01 a.m., Nov. 16, 2016.
Species affected: All species.
Location: Nisqually River from the mouth to military tank crossing bridge (located one mile upstream of mouth of Muck Creek). Pierce/Thurston counties.
Reasons for action: Based on pre-season forecast, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and Nisqually Indian Tribe are concerned that the winter chum return to the Nisqually River has the potential to fall short of the escapement goal. Given this information and the need to achieve our shared conservation goals, both WDFW and the Nisqually Tribe are closing their respective fisheries.
Other information: Anglers should refer to the 2016/2017 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet for other ongoing fishing opportunities.
Information Contact: James Losee, (360) 902-2741, [email protected], or Gabe Madel, (360) 902-2670.

They closed it last year also because the run didn't quite show up in the numbers they expected. I seriously doubt they will open it as the nisqually chum have been declining in size the last few years. Not just last year and this year.

Is it closed to recreational fishing persons only?
Re: No Chum fishing in the Nisq this year boys!
At this point the Nisqually tribal officials have said they will not fish. However, we are all keeping a close eye on the river and will document with pics ANY fishing we see taking place. There will, we understand be some "Test Fisheries" taking place to determine actual run size and perhaps an opening for all participants.racfish wrote:Is it closed to recreational fishing persons only?
