I saw tons of rollers Monday and Tuesday at Hovander - I don't think it's a bad year at all. Just bad visibility right now. The fish are there. And it is still only August 11.

I ended up going 1 for 3 on pinks and 5 coho......... 1 clipped and 4 natives......... We have rain in the forecast wed/thursday.....

Hit Ferndale last night for a few hours, significantly less rollers coming by and not a single bite or fish landed while I was there. Water clarity is at about a foot and will get worse this weekend through the heat... Probably going to give the river a break until it clears up. Tight lines, and hopefully some of you are catching a couple!

I'd say the pink run is basically done in the Nooksack this year. I bonked 4 last weekend, 3 hens and a huge chrome buck, and that ratio tends to indicate we are at the tail end of this as the females come in later than the males. I saw the most rollers at Hovander 3 weeks ago (in water too muddy to fish well) so I think that was the bulk of the run right there. But on a brighter note, today is September 1 and the bait ban is lifted! I released a wild coho jack this weekend and I have heard of plenty of other coho caught and hooked in the past 2 weeks already, so hopefully we start to see some good numbers of hatchery coho soon.

BTW the water appeared to be clearing up slightly yesterday up by Everson, so there is probably a good 1 or 2 day window of visibility before it goes to chocolate milk again with the coming heat.

welp it's a friday, and after a 4 hour drive from seattle ya caught me in a mood....... No the run is late as usual, considering the damn nets are in 100% of the time UNTIL SEPT 4th per lummi communications facebook page..... Must be nice to make your own rules and implement an entire 24\7 net schedule whenever they want.... And lets not forget their posting of over 20,000 fish caught in 1 weekend... Like there was no bycatch... F the system cause obviously we co manage with no input.......

Yes late, some folks down on the sack were telling me they had 2 cards filled by this time in 2015, better fishing then for sure, however the nets being in the river 24 /7 the last weeks aren't allowing fish upstream as fast... Received a new pic of a new net in friends honey hole. A net that wasn't there last night before he left at sunset, so obviously nets are getting dropped in the moonlight.... The river and its co managers are a f-n joke, if you the fisherman DON'T TAKE PHOTOS AND DOCUMENT THE INCIDENTS WE LOOSE WITHOUT PROOF... GET INVOLVED WITH YOUR LOCAL GROUPS>>> NSEA, CCA, ALL OF THEM!

Interesting article written by the Herald. Looks like the Nooksack Salmon Enhancment group is directing us on the right path for restoring a little bit of the habitat our salmon have lost. Glad to see someone doing something for a good cause, maybe someday we will have fishable runs of kings!
