Sky opens June 1st, don't bother

Post by northfork » Wed May 28, 2008 8:06 pm

I live just east of the town of Sultan and cross over the Sultan River where it meets the Skykomish River.
Although the Spring Chinook open June 1st on the Sky, the river is still running at 14,000 cfs and 10.21'.
Very little shore access and the water is the color of concrete.
Don't waste gas driving out here.
If anyone is interested in updates on the actual river conditions I would be glad to keep this updated.
As soon as the water drops and fish start showing at the Wallace Hatchery the trout pole gets put away and I will become a river rat.

Wait, fishing in chocolate milk isn't productive??? :thumright

Thanks for the update. I figured all the rivers would be pretty shot for a while with this recent sun/warmer temperature...

I was checking out a few spots on the Cowlitz this past weekend and it's pretty much in the same shape. Quite a bit of debris coming down with it, as well. Hopefully they clear out in the next couple weeks....

There's some spots on the Cispus, Ohanapecosh, and Skate Creek I'd love to toss a few flies around and can't wait for it to clear up.... :bounce:

I pass over the Duwamish a few times a day and it looks pretty nasty as well. If the mouth is nasty, I would be willing to bet the rest of the river is pretty beat up as well. It has gotten better in the last few days though

I booked a guided trip for springers on the Sky once it gets fishable.

Yep, Green is still Nasty.
Hopefully no more people with cheap rafts and no life vests will go out in it. If we get a few colder days it could clear up by the opener but I doubt it.

Yeah I am not even going to bother until at least next weekend. In fact, I might not even bother until the salmon start running. But there is Shady lake in Renton that opens on the 1st as well, so I will probally be there on Sunday. The only problem is I forgot my batterie charger in Vantage #-o

lol, yeah tell me about it. I knew I was going to forget it, even got a reminder not to forget it. Then to make matters worse I looked for it for about 15 min. before I realized I had taken it there in the first place

Stopped by the Wallace Hatchery today.
The Wallace River is flowing clear as can be and 0 fish in the holding pond and the gates are open.
The Sky is still butt ugly. Will see how many guys show up to try and fish it tomorrow. Opening Day.#-o

Wellllllll. There had to be at least 30 boat rigs at the launch this morning, I don't think you could have parked one more in the parking lot and across the river there was 25 guys fishing the underwater Cracker Bar almost shoulder to shoulder.
Will keep an eye on the hatchery and head down fishing when the fish start to show up.

Levels sure were high on the Sky today, but read on another board that someone said they heard of some fish caught at the mouth of the Wallace....

I'm not slaying the messenger just struck me as funny, bet there weren't any pictures lol.

With 30 boats between Lewis Street in Monroe and the mouth of the Wallace I would think SOMEBODY hooked a fish.
Dropping back into shape pretty fast now. Will hike downriver to the HOLE tomorrow after work.
