With 200000 plants and not many returns for that number i was conviced many years ago the amazing healthy population of dollies in the cascade is the reason for that. Release the smolt in mt vernon and youd see HUGE numbers id imagine

My inlaws have been asking for dolly fillets, I'm gonna head up and make a point to give them what they want. Most folks that catch 'em throw them back, so let's put a hurt on on for a bit to keep 'em in line.

I think people do not keep them is because they count towards your steelhead limit plus I heard they do not taste very good. I remember seeing this guy carry one out that had to been 30 inches long or more a couple years ago, bet the one did some damage.

I kept one once a few years ago and probably wouldn't keep one again. Wasn't very good eating, kinda like a planter rainbow.... I think I got the evil eye from a fly fisher when he saw me bonk it. Not sure if it would be causing too many smolt deaths? Seems like dollies would be the least of their problems....

Yeah I was backtrolling for springers on the skagit several years ago. Rod went down and an 8+ lb dolly showed up. let him go. I don't think many people keep em but they definitely like to eat smolts.

Dolly's remind me of Chums or pinks. I dont like the softer texture. Also seems like they got more bones They are better smoked but even better released back.

Ihink it is obvious that they eat lots of smolts because the sauk wild run is not very good because where they spawn in whitechuck creek or something like that the dollies pick them off, not to mention the record dolly was caught in that creek. Plus when the hatchery dumps all the smolts in the river The dollies just kill them at the raspberry hole. But right they are not only the problem, nets, straying, floods, ect all add up.

It's a certain person who lives on the river. Make sure you have permission before accessing private property.

Couple of years back I watched him run twards a unsuspecting fisherman with a bayonet and then proceed to B1tch him out about trespassing. Not a pretty sight and it could have gotten really bad really quick. Luckily the fisherman kept his cool and left quietly. Sherrif was called and situation was delt with. Seems that the whack job renter likes to tell people he owns the river. I am not in a position to say whether he does or does not have the right to keep people out, but I'm not going to tread past those signs to find out if he's gonna go postal and kill someone. Cascade is a brutal place to fish, everyone should stay off that river, no fish there anyway.

sheriff was called but nothing could be done about it because the knife/ bayonet or such was not removed from its sheath, at least that was the story I was recently told. The worst part about it, from what I was told the fisherman had a young fisherman with and the kid was crying he was so scared. This person is the caretaker of the land not owner, but has the right to...politely ask people to leave that area of private property. Not a nice guy!

Whopper, you are wrong in your statement that the cascade has no fish. I was there this past Monday and there were a lot of fish
Fishing isn't a hobby, It isn't for fun. Fishing is life.

The hatchery has less then 30 as of today!!!! The news paper is plain out wrong. First egg take was yesterday, only 7 hens and 11 bucks ONLY 7 HENS the hens are what they need!!! As for dannyl I don't know what you are talking about saying there are a lot of fish. Why would you bs people??? I was there from daylight till about 1:00. a couple fish can hardly be called a lot of fish. Seems you put up a post saying you would report back after your trip monday....I would think if you had saw lots of fish monday, you would have reported back.

BRAT BONKER- all but a couple of those 18 fish (not 30 as said in paper) came in a couple weeks ago. We need a big rain to bring in some fish.....if theres some ready to come in, starting to get worried.

that sucks, hopefully they can atleast get the egg count before they decide to have an emergency closure but if they do, I plan on hitting the upper river for some strays or evern early wilds, lots of nice spots up there.

If a guy only puts in photos and reports when they do well, it makes it seem like they go out less than they do, and they are really good at fishing!

I only post a report when I do good enough to make it interesting. Or catch more than 2 fish. Or when I catch one over 6 pounds. Or feel like it. :-) [laugh]

NOBODY wants to read about a skunk - usually. Heck, some people won't read a report unless there is a picture, THEY don't care about any hints the reporter might post.

Heck, even the grumpy OLD man is getting skunked today. Ya, I'm watching 'Grumpy Old Men' on tv. [laugh]
