You think tomorrow is my lucky day for Alder Kokanee?

Post by Coffee » Tue Oct 11, 2016 2:01 pm

Hello :)

I have a chance to go fishing tomorrow from about 9 AM to about 5 PM [thumbsup] I want to fish for Kokanee in Alder but I'm hesitant and could really use some insight.

You see, I'm very new to Kokanee fishing and have gone fishing for them 3 times this summer with ZERO success. Once in each: Alder, American, and Clear (Pierce). I tried trolling green & red wedding ring with corn, pink hoochie with corn, Kokanee Killer with corn, Slow Death hook with a worm. Nothing caught. I'm not sure if it was me doing something wrong all these 3 times or it was the fish. I don't usually have a problem trolling for rainbows, I caught plenty of them this summer. But I wanna catch Kokanee for a change!

So what do you think? Is tomorrow a good day for Alder's Kokanee? Any tips?

Or maybe I should try for them in a different lake? Or just fish for Perch in American and forget about Kokanee for now?

If that's the case, maybe I should just go to American Lake and fish Perch :(

Sounds like you threw all the right stuff at em - but did you manage to find out where they were?

The depth at which they hang is important, as is the speed that you troll.

Electronics help here, without them you are fishing blind.

All of the kokanee we caught this year were in 22' - 55' of water (depth changed as the water warmed over the spring into summer) and troll speed was kept at 1.5 - 2 mph.

Just keep at em, it is the only way you'll put them in the box

onmygame, thanks for the tips. I'm new to fish finders too, I use a castable one with a basic view (Deeper Pro+). If Kokanee is supposed to be in schools, and they reflect a strong signal back to the sonar, then maybe I saw them only once or twice! Any pics or tips on how they look on the screen are appreciated.

Life happened and I didn't get to go on my whole day fishing trip. Luckily, I was able to spend a couple hours fishing in Bradley before sunset. It was my first time ever fishing for bass and I caught one! Beginners' luck no doubt!
