Hunting Crawdads in eastern lakes

What eastern lakes are good for crawdads? And what baits are you using? We've been using catfood, and doing pretty well. Thanks for any input.

Almost all of the Eastern Lakes are full of crawdads, except maybe Sprague. When they killed it off last time I know they did not replant the sculpin or crayfish, so who knows.......... I would look for the lakes that have not been killed off in the longest time, and the ones with the most rock structure. For example, Badger should be good, Downs would not.

Hey, just a reminder to everyone, this state has a hidden crayfish season and it is closed right now. You need to look in the shell fish section (everything else is salt water, so why put one freshwater in it????). There is an actual season and a minimum size.

Of course I know you are just gettting ready, as am I, to catch some bait. I usually keep my trash fish, like carp, suckers, pikeminnow, etc., and freeze them. When I am ready, I take a piece and toss it in the cooler for the trip to the lake. The warmer water puts the trash fish scent into the water and the next morning I normally have what I am looking for.
