ASPARAGI
Its that time of year again. The signs for asparagus are all around.I was there this last Sat. and they were about $1.25 a pound. Not bad...In the comming weeks the prices should drop a lil bit.I do my pickled asparagus every year.About 60 -80 lbs worth.Remember to buy LOCAL....Lets all help our own..

We get ours direct from the tri-cities, right from the fields. Hard to get it any fresher unless you grow your own. I love it fresh and pickled. My favorite fresh recipe is simple, drizzled with olive oil and then season with kosher salt, fresh ground pepper, and a light dusting of garlic powder. Straight onto the grill until just lightly charred then turn and repeat, yummy! :thumright

Apsparagus is delish! My girlfriend and I both love to eat it, moreso around this time of year. Steamed, sauteed, grilled... any way you cook it is just fine with me. I like to saute it with butter and fresh garlic and sprinkle fresh Parmesan cheese over the top and let it melt and go to a golden brown. Makes a great side for any Italian dish

When I was young, we used to go out to the field and collect asparagus to eat, so it's odd to me to buy it from the grocery store. I do love asparagus.

My favorite was to cook aspargus is to bursh it with olive oil, then sprinkle on sea salt (go heavy - you'll feel like you are putting on too much), then throw them on the grill.
If you have an issue with them falling through the grill bars then you can either get a veggie grill basket, or make asparaugas rafts. Make a raft by using 2 toothpicks - stick run one through the bottom part of 4-5 asparagi, and the other about 1/3 from the top. Make the rafts before doing the oil & salt.

You got that right Natenez.. I get a grill cover at Lowes for keeping veggies from falling through the grill. For like 5 bucks you get two of the trays. Works great.

I go to a few local markets here and around Seattle. The fun thing I really enjoy is to go to the farms themselves.I make it a day or weekend trip.I take my fly gear for the Yakima river and trout poles for the ponds that dot the way all the way into the Toppenish,Wapato and Yakima area.Go out to the Wapato area and see the stuff grow and get it right from the fields. For pickling that is the best.
I usually go out the Canyon Road and throw a few flies in certain areas that I like .Then go on to Yakima and do my shopping. There is a Wally World in Yakima thats HUGE.I also go to a store called Fiesta Foods. Its all hispanic foods with great bakery and meat counter. Then lunch at a place Salsitas. Then to the fields to purchase. The whole experience is awesome. I take people from out of our area and the scenery is breath taking.By the time you pay for gas and shopping its not real worth it money wise but its worth it freshness wise.On the way home I go out I-82 and find a pond without that 20-40 mph wind that the area has so much of.
Nothing like a lil trip to Yakima every once in awhile.Buy Washington !!!!!
