Fishing around Hope Island area

Post by crappiemaster » Thu Jul 24, 2008 8:31 am

I will be going to Carlyon Point next weekend. Gonna take the kids down there to relax. Any suggestions on areas to fish? Bottomfish, trout, anything to keep the line in the water. Not too familiar with the area, but will have a boat to cruise around in. Is anyone shellfishing around that area as well?

You may want to motor north to the Vaughn Bay area for salmon. There is also good shellfishing on the east side of Harstine Is. on the DNR beach.

Thanks! What kind of shellfish? Love steamers and I need a crab fix. Salmon would be cool, but I wouldn't mind looking for some bottomfish. How far is Harstine from Hope Island?

as far as bottomfishing goes its pretty lousy but you can catch bullhead(sculpin), greenling and flounder. the greenling are found along the kelp near rocky shores and its best to use 1/2once jigs w/curly tails. the flounder are pretty much on flat bottoms 20ft and deeper. I've found that clams on a small hook work really good for flounder and sculpin. by the way the fishing gets better outside of deception pass. The kelp beds around deception Island(not the island that the bridge is on) are good for greenling rockfish and lingcod.
