so i got really bored and wanted to make a homemade jig mold. so i came out with this..



i was wondering if anyone knew what size jig hook i need for this. the jig i used as my blank never said what size hook but all i know is it is a 1/4 ounce jig.

The jig in your picture looks like it was made with a 90 degree 1/0 hook. My 1/4oz jig molds recommend 1/0 or 2/0 hooks.

Your homemade jig mold could accomodate multiple hook sizes if you removed 1/16 of an inch from the areas marked in red. (see pic)

You don't have to cut off the back section, just use a dremel to remove a little of the surface of both pieces.

i might just end up making a whole new mold. this is my first one and it is pretty nice for not knowing what im doing haha.

How did you make that?

I've made these molds before. The toughest part is trying to get keep the hot lead from forming over the hook eye. I had trouble getting the plaster in that area to hold the hook eye properly.

BTW I've made dozens of Buzz Bomb, Wilson darts, and Phish type lures using these plaster molds. Better than buying them at 4+ bucks a piece.

balsa wood is a great jig material to make the pattern. The only downside with these molds is they start falling apart after a dozen or so castings, at least in my experience.
