Re: Pend Oreille River / Coeurdalene Lake
I heard from a friend today that they say they have removed 4000 pike from the river so far and they are saying that as bycatch goes, they are only getting 1 bass for every 150 pike. I agree with Craig, that the pike fishing will get better when things warm up. I'm not ready to stop going up and trying yet, but it will probably only take one more fruitless trip in May to get me to pull the plug on the POR. I really do hope they stop gill netting when they get to 5700 or so because I think there are a lot more pike in the river than they were guessing. At any rate. I have stopped losing sleep over the POR and have set my sights on learning every crack and crevace in Coeurdalene Lake.

Hey Mark,
I am glad to hear that you are at least able to enjoy the Pike Fishing in Idaho on Coeurdalene. That is one place I have never been, but my boat would certainly have an open seat for you anytime you would be willing to show me the ropes around what I hear is paradise! Hearing the numbers of Pike being destroyed on the River just makes me sick, it just shows how ignorance really can dilute peoples thinking. Try telling anyone in the Mid-West to use the amount of Gill Nets in the manner that these nets are being used, chances are those nets wouldn't last long especially when it comes to the Pike, Musky, and Walleye Anglers. They are as passionate about these species as Washingtonians are about the Salmon and Steelhead! The worst part about this whole ordeal is the economy of Pend Oreille County that is going to suffer more than anyone. Politics aside, this River is sort of the life and blood of that County and from what I see and read the Tribe and the WDFW could care less! I guess this just shows all of us the power of greed and money! Power corrupts and Ultimate Power Ultimately Corrupts! Well at least we still have Idaho and Canada and I will certainly be hitting both this year All for PIKE!!! and of course a few Walleyes!!! Gotta have something for a good shore lunch. Garlic Butter Lemon Peppered Fried Walleye, now that just sounds like a winner! If we ever get to a place to catch some Walleye locally I will treat you to a Great Shore Lunch, its on me! Good Luck this Spring, hope to see you guys in May.
