Hi I was wondering if there were any plans to make it possible to post hot spots on rivers?

You can put hotspots in for river reports as well as lakes. It's not used much, and they look different (differnet icon). But you can do it.

This is something I was unaware of too then. Where do you find the hotspots for rivers then Mike. I only see selections for lakes.

I played with it a little this afternoon but I could not find it.

right now the hotspots for rivers are a little difficult to find. Unlike the lakes, you can only find them as you go through the reports and see the "hotspot" notice for the specific report. Or, if you check the front page "New Fishing Hotspots" and if a river hotspot was posted in the last 30 days, it will be there.

I just submited a fishing report for the Umqua River in Oregon, check out the WL.com front page, "New Hotspots" and you'll see the report and hotspot there.

So for rivers the hotspots have not been fully implemented yet. It's something we'll look into improving. Frankly, the river guys only started posting in ernest this past 1/2 year so prior to that it wasn't a main focus for us.

We are also considering opening up the hotspots to everyone to see, but leave the gps and lat/long information to be reserved for the premium members only. It would encourage more hotspots being posted. We are working on additional Premium Member features to give you guys more value for your memberships. That's the reason for having a paid membership, to provide us with the revenue needed to work on new improvements to the site. It also gives guys a way to help support the site for a nominal amount of money ($25 or $20 per year is pretty inexpensive, in my opinion).

Hot spots on rivers have a tendency to change with every good size storm that comes through. I know there are exceptions, but for the most part, rivers change too much for hot spots to stay the same.

Good point. Some of my favorite holes are good one day and not the next, best to move until you find fish. Not to mention the water levels will make fish move or stay. Barometric pressure.

Your welcome. I agree, hotspots for rivers are a bit less helpful, but they do serve to give general locations, rather than specific spots. I've just posted a report on the Rogue river, again with Hot Spots. Check out the comments I made on them to get a sense of how I would use them for a river. Also, consider that the hot spots are a useful tool for your own memories, being able to check back on a report you posted 5-6 years ago and refresh your memory as to how to get to a particular location is in my opinion a powerful tool.
