Build a man a fire and he's warm for the night. Light a man on fire and he's warm the rest of his life!

It's just because it's here in Seattle. I lived in Philadelphia for a few years. Valley Forge Park(yes the battlefield and its associated historical monument) sit between downtown Philly and several large and well developed bedroom suburbs. Deer are protected in the park which has a road going through it that many use to commute back and forth to work. The road is about 4-8 feet countersunk below ground. Now these whitetail deer (and many on the east coast) are as large as the big mulies and whitetails we see here in Washington. Most of them that inhabit the park for the average citizen do not look a lot like Bambi when full grown. Now they got to be so numerous due to being protected that they started jumping over this road in the middle of rush hour and began ending up in the windshields of passenger and commercial vehicles using the roadway and quite a few people were killed in the accidents.

The local residents were literally begging the National Parks Service to do something about the issue(this started way back in the mid-90's when I lived there). Now the locals were all for it, but the PETA/Greenpeacers managed to string this whole thing out in the courts for almost 20 years. They even went as far as to try to force the reduction of the deer population by introducing predators like coyotes into the urban environment to reduce the population rather than hire professional marksmen with silencer equipped rifles to thin the deer populations, and wanting to start a program of 'deer contraception'. In the meantime the deer population kept growing at an exceptional rate until they started to run out of food in the park, started destroying the eco-system, and started invading urban gardens etc looking for food.

Finally in 2010 after all the court wrangling was over they finally got to have the first cull hunt. The population at the time was close to 1300 deer on the 3300 acre park. This was almost 800% higher than the natural population density which would be 160-190 deer over the same area in an unprotected habitat. They took 600 deer (over 9 tons of meat which was donated)during the first hunt in 2010 with 3 more consecutively smaller hunts planned each year until they reach 175 deer population.

Can you imagine this happening in Seattle? It's nearly an Amber alert every time there is a deer with a piece of wire around its neck or even a seagull with a broken wing. We have to face it that both the media and a vast portion of the Puget Sound population are just out of their freaking minds, and the rest of us are paying the price for it.

Seattles a funny city. Ive lived here all my life and every year I get great laughs from living here. They killed off a large part of a flock to thin the flock so the other could eat better and the 1 million dollar plus home along the lake wouldnt get poop in their yards and private docks. Did they feed the homeless with these? Nope they destroyed them all. Thats Seattles mentality. We'll build shelters for the homeless but damned if they'll feed them. When your belly is empty and youre hingry a lil park goose would be very tastey. As usual two days before capturing the birds the idiots at the times has an article about in the paper and 100 greenpeace ,sierra club (mayor Macguinn) and peta showed up. Kinda like the seaguls at the ferry terminals and the Sealions at Bonneville. We feel there has to be announcements on these subjects.

I saw this a coupls weeks ago on FB. I think they should be left alone, one a day is a rediculous number to harvest do you really need to go out and kill everyone of the? As for those who are comparing why cant they (the public) do the same about the netting etc . I reckon with the right figure head and support from all anglers together we too could amass huge public support for net banning using social means and local community meetings.
