I remember that episode, very well. I recall finding it refreshing that this show was like no other. Yes, a whole day of shooting would be edited down to the "good stuff". But when you catch nothing, the good stuff is similar to real life fishing conditions.coretron22 wrote:I didn't know he filmed here...yeah, that makes me feel a little better about my fishing reality.Amx wrote:Mike Iaconelli fished in Wa state twice, he got skunked both times. A real fan for the guide. are we? Go home cranky after a guided trip, once? Just funnin.racfish wrote:The difference of pros getting skunked and us getting skunked is that they still get paid plushly and we go home cranky.

An entire episode of no catching. The only thing different, is he is having a fish-less day, doing it with a guide. Where as I would likely be fish-less with a friend.
If I recall correctly, in the episode. It was around 2pm, when the host wanted to shift to bass. Well, true to the show. There is a time limit set, for all fish to be caught. I think 8am to 4or 5pm. The shift from Salmon fishing in Puget Sound, to Bass in lake Washington. Was by boat, through the locks. Now, you know a trip through the locks, by boat. Is going to take some time off the clock.
By the time they reach lake Wa. It seems they are fishing the closest spot possible to the locks. Which is around the West side, 520 highrise. They had less than a hour to catch a bass. Might even been half an hour of bass fishing. You could see Mike Iaconneli was frustrated with the day.
But it was real world fishing, like the average Joe might experience, in a day.!!
I don't often watch fishing shows anymore. The fish catching is tainted, by use of all the tricks taped and editing tv has to offer. As well as local guided knowledge.
Not that you mention the "tornado". I remember that, but did not recall that weather anomaly for these parts, occurring during the show. But that does sound to be right. If I remember, that was not a tornado because it did not touch land or water. So it was officially called something else. But that thing was a "tornado" for sure. Off of Alki point. Which would place them close to the locks.FishingFool wrote:I remember that episode actually. If I remember correctly, this was when Seattle had a "tornado" or something. I believe it was actually caught on the show in the background. Or maybe they cut in a clip of the local news.
Also, that "guide" wasn't much of a guide for Ike. I'm almost 100% positive, the guide said he's never bass fished before. I remember Ike's reaction to it. He was seriously like WTF is this guy doing here then.... LOL.
I watch Csonka too. Didnt know he took over for someone else. Speaking of which. What is his relationship with Aubry or Andrea or whatever her name is. I didn't think they were a couple, because they never acted like that way on the show. But I say an ep where they said they bought a house on some lake....MotoBoat wrote:Not that you mention the "tornado". I also do recall the salmon fishing was not during the prime time. Also, that the Salmon guide was not a bass guy.
There was an all together different fishing show, on ESPN. That fished Potholes with a guide. During that show, they were blanked or caught very few, small bass. It was a bit of a shock, considering that body of water can be good. When fishing sucks, there is a lot of scenery shots!.......LOL! And bits of "other fishing trips" for video filler.
Does anyone remember the show I am referring too? Was it with Larry Csonka (Zonka?). Something strange about the show Zonka hosts. Is that Zonka was a guest on the show, that another football player hosted. Well Csonka was more entertaining than the host.
When I saw this episode. I thought to myself. What if Csonka took over the hosting position, when he was there originally for guest purposes! When the following years new season started, there was Csonka hosting the show. That was a bunch of years ago.
Put on your thinking caps, do any of you members recall that bass episode, or who hosted the show before Csonka took over?
I remember now, it was Dick budcus that hosted before Larry Csonka. But that was the show Larry hosted, before the current "fishing Alaska" (correct name?).FishingFool wrote:I watch Csonka too. I just watched the lastest preview for North To Alaska. It's their 16th and final year for the series.Bodofish wrote:Since inquiring minds would like to know. Here is a quote from the Bio section of the "North to Alaska" web site.
"Csonka is an Alaska resident. After residing several years in Anchorage, he and longtime partner, Audrey Bradshaw, are new residents of Wasilla. They also maintain a home in Florida and a farm in Ohio. They are happily owned by their yellow lab, Lace."
All I can say is I wish my wife liked to fish that much. OK well she does when I can get her to go it's the getting her out there.
