We're back.... 2 days early, LOL!
Oh man. On Monday when we left, I didn't bother removing the boat cover. First time towing 200 miles with the cover on. Wasn't sure how it would handle. On the way there, rain, rain and more rain. We eventually get to the east side and it's still rain everywhere.
We get to Coulee City and it's pouring, lol. As we get closer to Steamboat at about 2PM, it looked like it was going to downpour over the area. But when we got to our campsite, it was just a light rain. It actually stopped raining briefly, so we hurried up and setup our tent. Looking around our tent pad, it was covered in poop. Geese and dear poop. Ugh. Never had this problem before. Rain, and now poop. *sigh* Kicked and brushed away what I could.
We finish just in time as the rain was back. We go inside the truck and make sandwiches for lunch. After lunch, we finish checking in and look around for a bit. You can definately see the dark clouds getting closer. So we decided not to launch the boat and just fish around the park area.
We both caught a small SMB there. Tons of geese and their poop. They really need to do something about all the geese.
The clouds did roll in, but it wasn't heavy rain. It was just a light drizzle if anything. We definately should have taken the boat out, lol. Oh wells.
We go to bed and soon afterwards oh man. It was heavy rain. Woke up to a few strong gust shaking the tent, blair witch style. So Tues morning, it was raining pretty good. We decided to visit the Wife's parents in Spokane, lol. Made it a day over there instead. By the time, we got back to Steamboat, it was late, but we did pull over on the side of the highway and fished for a few minutes. Nothing there.
We decided whatever happens on Weds, we will go out on the boat no matter what. Didnt towing it 200 miles for nothing. Woke up to surprise, rain rain rain, lol. At least it wasn't as windy.
Jerry rigged an umbrella against a chair and made a nice breakfast. Put on our rain gear and removed the cover on the boat. Got it on the water and off we went. Rain has stopped by now actually. We putted towards the Barker Canyon flat area. We were at a point with these high rocks. I thought it was deep enough for me to go over but I whacked my trolling motor against one of them... :( Anyways within 5 mins, we had 3 fish on. 2 SMB jumped off at boat side and 1 walleye landed. We continue working that area forabout 30 mins with not even a bite. We tried the shallow area for a bit with nada. So I started heading towards another point. We fished it for about 10 mins and the wind started to pick up and here comes the waves...We figure now is the time to head back in and take cover.
It was like the Deadliest Catch to us, since we typically don't fish in this type of weather on the water, lol. The waves were parallel to the direction back we needed to go. Had a couple of waves splash over the gunnel and got us good. Lol, it was intense. I was afraid of gunning it. Was cruising at about 7 MPH trying not to die. Eventually there was a slight break in the wind and waves. Finally got to go WOT and hauled out back to the launch. A bass boat I spotted fishing near the Barkers Flat area goes flying by to take cover too.
The entire lake looked super windy. We checked the forecast for tomorrow and it was suppose to be more rain. So we cut our trip short and packed up. While leaving, it was actually beautiful, lol. Nice and sunny. But very windy.
I didn't get a chance to use my new "Shakey Head" pole. :(
