What ya think

Post by sickbayer » Sun Feb 10, 2013 7:40 pm

So i just clicked on CL/boats and this came up in the posts.
http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/boa/3608614192.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

FYI EVERY TIME THE FISH CHECKER AT THE DOCK ASKS YOU IF YOU RELEASED ANY SHAKERS/WILD FISH, ECT. AND YOU SAY 3 SHAKERS AND ONE WILD FISH RELEASED; THEY COUNT FOUR FISH AS KILLED. THIS GOES AGAINST OUR QUOTA OF FISH CAUGHT. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST YEAR WHEN THEY CLOSED THE CHINOOK SEASON EARLY IN PUGET SOUND. IT'S CALLED THE MORTALITY RATE. SO IF THEY'RE NOT IN THE FISH BOX IN YOUR BOAT THE ANSWER IS NO, EVERY TIME. PLEASE RELEASE EVERY FISH AS GENTLY AS POSSIBLE, BUT WE NEED TO STRETCH THE TRUTH A LITTLE TO KEEP MORE FISH FOR THE SPORTSMAN AND NOT IN THE NETS. PLEASE HELP ME SPREAD THE WORD. THIS WILL PROBABLY GET FLAGGED. THANKS

The above paragraph is in case the ad gets flagged for viewers? Anyone know if this is true? IS it good or bad either way posting this and will it effect your reports to the fish checker?

If you say that you didn't catch any fish time and time again, maybe they'll close the season/fishing all together? Image Certainly something to think about. Maybe ask the checker why he counts them all as dead.

Altho there is no way in hell that they would close the netting seasons.

That would be a bit more than irritating if true. Truth is, that a good portion of all shakers caught end up dead. They slam into our lures with such ferocity that many mortally impale themselves though the head and body while others become seal bait. It is just they way they are wired and there isn't much one can do about it except move to a different location. I've tried using smaller hooks, and that helps a great deal with shaker mortality but barbless and small hooks suck for adult fish retention. For years we have been saying that the way the State has managed this fishery is seriously flawed, this just reaffirms our view.

When fishing the sound I catch most shakers letting my line down. Then after dragging them for a bit you realize there is something there. I carefully release them and a seagull gulps it down. I dont report my shakers. No one has ever asked me to nor have I seen a Fish Checker/Crab counter in many many years.

That would be called lying! Not stretching the truth.
I believe I have read that a percentage is counted as dead, but I could not find it it a quick search of the game dept. website.
