Is there anybody on here is using Power Director Ultimate version 11.0 or close to that for video editing?
I just got this new computer all set up for this sort of thing, and I feel like I'm stumbling through stuff. I am frustrated with video that is, "Rendering" constantly...? First off you might think that I need a faster CPU, or more RAM, etc.
I've got an i-7 CPU 3.6 GHZ, 16 GB RAM, and a graphics card that prices out near my first automobile. (GeForce GTX 680) I am certain that I've got the necessary hardware to run Power Director, but sure would love to compare bruises with somebody else who is doing this sort of thing.

It can be a lot of things. Rendering takes time, I've never ran that program but have a lot of experience with video. If you're rendering a big project, even on a fast computer it's going to take some time. Is it happening when you're outputting, or constantly slowing down while you're working?

I've seen a lot of poorly written software for video editing. The more "features" it has the bigger the chance it's going to be buggy. If I recall you said it was an X64 version of windows. Is the software written for 64bit? Have you checked for compatibility on Win 8? And then there's always time to process, no matter how fast the hw is video processing takes time. The fastest machines just do it a little faster. if your new machine came with the OS loaded, chances are you have a ton of crap that came loaded with. Every program and manufacturer thinks their software is the most important so they all have them load at startup so when you click on the icon to start them they open quickly for you. Totally not needed and all they do is take up resources. Go into msconfig and stop all programs you don't want to start at startup and uninstall all the crap they load by default. Software mfgs pay the hardware mfgs to load their programs on new pc's in the hopes you'll buy the full featured version or continue past he trial period. Whack them all and give me a shout if your stuck.

Rendering takes my super fast computer around 30-40 minutes for a 12-15 minute video.
Does your program ever stop rendering and produce a finished product?
Is this a trial version or paid?
If it's a trial, I suggest downloading a different program like Adobe Premium and seeing if your computer will render all the way to finish. Most software vendors will offer trials which is a good way to confirm the software works before paying $$ for it. I remember years ago using Pinnacle and it just never being able to render on my computer. Very frustrating having already paid for it.
Finally, and this is a luxury I admit, having a dedicated computer for video editing and a second computer for e-mail/web browser/word programs. Keeps your video computer stable and running at optimal performance.

Thanks for the replys folks. Ok... I'm feeling better here. Maybe it just shows my ignorance to this process. It sounds like everybody needs time to render when dropping video into the "Timeline"
I really thought if you drop a 20 minute clip into the timeline, that it was an instant function, like cut/paste.

I just adjusted the "Sleep mode" on my OS, and now I can drop it in, and go do something else, come back in awhile and have a product to work with.
and somebody asked about OS etc, It is Win 7, and the computer was not bought straight off the shelf so to speak, so there is not a lot of garbage loaded into it, nor set to load on startup.
This is pretty fun stuff, slow motion, audio effects. I have a new reason to not go to bed at night.

There may be a setting that will make the pre-render take less time. When you're dropping the video into the timeline it's creating the preview, so it has to make a preview. If you can adjust the quality of the preview, it might make it faster. I'm not sure if there is a setting for that in the program, but it's worth a look.
