I guess it's kinda hard to see him go. He's been here since forever and was the main man for a while. I know we've all been disappointed by his playing/running in the last two years, but we gotta be appreciated for everything he's done while in Seattle and wish him well in the next step of his career...
I figured it had to come when we signed Jones and Duckett....

That kinda sucks. I mean he hasn't been producing so that in itself means he's gotta go. I don't know the guy but he always came across as a "Nice guy" if you will. I know he did some charity work in the greater Seattle area. Best of luck to him.Sam Kafelafish wrote:Here's the link to the ESPN story..

Thank god, I have held a grudge against him since he took Rickey Waters starting spot. I have way more faith in Ducket and Jones anyway. I was going to be really upset if he got the starting spot over 2 better backs just because of that stupid contract we gave him
RE:Bye Bye Shaun Alexander
Youve held a grudge from the beginning? He was puttin up big numbers in his prime. I dont like Ducket or Jones, I hope we get a good RB in the 1st round.gpc wrote:Thank god, I have held a grudge against him since he took Rickey Waters starting spot. True, but anybody with the best offense line in the NFL should be able to do that. Just think if we had a RB with a little heart, he would have smashed alexanders numbers. Instead we had a big boddy RB who who couldnt (or wouldnt) stick a line backer or hit a hole. Remember the QB slide?Awoods wrote:Youve held a grudge from the beginning? What do you think someone like Barry Sanders could have done with our line. (something he never had) Or Walter Payton, ya, our o-line made Shaun Alexander.
It just goes to show how much a quality offensive line means to a team. Look at what a perfect offensive line did for the Cowboys in their hay-day. Or even the Patriots, yes they have great players, but would would Brady be without that line?

Let's see if the same thing happens that always seems to happens and he startes somewhere else and is playing like a top notch player.
Well its not called Catching!
RE:Bye Bye Shaun Alexander
Thay would have been unbelivable. About 4 years ago there was 3 main free agent RBs on the block. Alexander, Travis Henry and Edgerin James. I was so pist we didnt take one of the other 2. And Edge is my favorite player in the NFL. Imagine James behind our line. What, his rookie year he led the NFL in yards, and sophmore year. Tore his ACL bounced back (wich rarely happens with RB). And is still putting up good numbers, 2 consectutive 1,000 yard seasons for the cardinals !?!fishnislife wrote:gpc wrote:True, but anybody with the best offense line in the NFL should be able to do that. RE:Bye Bye Shaun Alexander
I agree completely that the o-line made shaun alexander who he was, but I do not think any other RB would have been better suited for the job. Alexander was perfect for the line at that time, he had patience waiting for the hole to open up, and once he was through that hole he was gone, many backs don't look for the hole and instead take off before there o-line can establish. This is completely my opinion though. Trust me, Im with the rest of ya that were irritated with Shaun's shoestring "falls" and slug like movements.fishnislife wrote:gpc wrote:True, but anybody with the best offense line in the NFL should be able to do that. RE:Bye Bye Shaun Alexander
We need to remeber Alexander is considered "old"in terms of average age of RB's. We had plenty of good seasons with him.I was hopefull that he was in a slump and would return to his previous status. We got some better RB's coming in but that will not fix the overall problem. Biggest problem?...Dropped passes.

Well I don't think dropped passes will be a problem. After all Darrel Jackson and Koren Robinson are out of the picture, Thank god. I suppose it will be 1)Branch, who isn't showing all his ability 2)Engram, very underrated with great hands 3)Obomanu?, hes up and coming, he'll be good. I think the biggest problem is the offensive line.kevinb wrote:We need to remeber Alexander is considered "old"in terms of average age of RB's. And we let Hackett get signed elsewhere this offseason. He'll be a solid WR in the future. Likely not a hall of famer or anything like that, but someone who is always thought about time come the Pro Bowl....

RE:Bye Bye Shaun Alexander
Well, what do think the possibilities of getting Johnson are? We need a reciever, we have the money, do we want to pay out enough money to get a guy like him. He could change the game for us. Would he even want to play for us?Awoods wrote:Well I don't think dropped passes will be a problem. After all Darrel Jackson and Koren Robinson are out of the picture, Thank god. RE:Bye Bye Shaun Alexander
I would love to have Johnson but i dont think we have what it would take to get him and i dont think he would want to play for us
RE:Bye Bye Shaun Alexander
I like Ocho Cinco (sp?). I dont like the loud mouths but him I can tolerate. He is more of a class clown than a T.O. He would be a great improvement to Seattle. I could see him getting us to the superbowl, like that one did for the Eagles a few years back
RE:Bye Bye Shaun Alexander
Haha I wish! I don't think Ruskell wants anything to do with Johnson. He has loads of talent, but also tons of bad attitudes, which are quite entertaining. There are too many teams after him and Cincy just rejected a Redskins trade for him, so I don't see alot of potential in Johnson being ocho-cinco in the dos-cero-seis(206).fishnislife wrote:

Great spanish brutha. I know that there is little to no chance, but it's still fun to think about.Awoods wrote:Haha I wish! I don't think Ruskell wants anything to do with Johnson. We'll end up using our draft pick for a WR or TE.

RE:Bye Bye Shaun Alexander
Well it had to happen sooner or later, and yes kevinb is correct in terms of running backs he is old.We have had him since the draft in 2000.He has had his ups and his downs recently more downs. But his career is far from over some other team will pick him up.But it is time to move on for Shaun, the Hawks and us as fans. Here is the press release from the Seahawks.
Seahawks Release Alexander
Kirkland, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks have released running back Shaun Alexander, the team announced today.
“This was an extremely difficult decision,” said President/General Manager Tim Ruskell. “We thank Shaun for his commitment both on and off the field over the last eight years. He played a huge role in the renaissance of football in Seattle and for that we will always be grateful.”
Originally joining the Seahawks as the 19th selection overall in the 2000 NFL Draft, Alexander started 97 of 119 career games after becoming the regular starter during his second season. Helping Seattle win the last four NFC West division titles, he became the Seahawks career leader in rushing yards (9,429), attempts (2,176), total touchdowns (112), and 100-yard rushing games (37). He owns or shares at least 37 franchise single-game, single-season and career records. His 100 rushing touchdowns are tied with Marshall Faulk for seventh most in NFL history while his rushing yards rank 24th.
A three-time Pro Bowler (2003-05), in 2005 Alexander became the first Seahawks player to earn NFL MVP honors after breaking the NFL record for most touchdowns in one season (since broken by LaDainian Tomlinson – 31). Alexander’s 28 total touchdowns in 2005 eclipsed Priest Holmes’ 2003 mark of 27. That same season he also helped the Seahawks reach their first Super Bowl while winning the NFL’s rushing title with a franchise-record 1,880 yards and averaging a franchise-best 5.1 yards per carry.
Alexander became the first player in NFL history with 15 or more touchdowns five consecutive seasons (2001-05), one of just five players in NFL history to score 20 touchdowns in consecutive seasons (2004-05) and one of five players to rush for back-to-back 1,600-yard seasons (2004-05).
Pretty impresive but time to go none the less.Go Luck Shaun thank you for playing for us and I hope your future endevours are productive as they were for us.=d> =d>
