Got a summer job!

Post by FishBaitThe2nd » Mon Jun 24, 2013 4:46 pm

Finally got a way of making myself some money. For most of the summer, ill be a handy man for a construction company. Making decent money...the main thing im thinking when I get tired is "think of the money you get in the end, what kind of toys can you buy? New rod, tackle boxes, gear, maybe a bow..." [thumbup]

Save up too. Start a savings account now, put 10% in it and don't touch it. That's what I did when I was your age, and it bought me my truck, my boat and I still have money growing for a house payment. Maybe it's a little grown up of me to say so, but you're never too young to be responsible.

Good for you kid! I'm proud of ya stepping up. I know you don't have everything handed to ya on a platter, silver or otherwise, I know it's tough when you see friends just get everything they want. Good for you taking the pressure off your grand parents!! I'm really proud of you for taking the big step!! [thumbup] [thumbup]

Good deal! Working for what you get will instill values like nothing else in your life will. Not to mention pride and good self esteem.

From the sounds of it, he'll be a go-for. Good job for a kid. [wink] Get exposure to many aspects of the job with out actually getting fingers in harms way....

All those rules are just laws but never enforced.Like blabbing on the cell phone while driving,or texting. Those are laws but never enforced. Or no smoking within 25 feet of a storefront door. Its the law but never is it enforced. All those laws are whoppdee do laws but seldom enforced. WISHA mustve run out of money to enforce working rules. In this economy a job is a job. You do what you have to to stay alive. JMO.

If there is enforcement looking it is enforced. I have seen it happen. Does it always happen, no. Just like working under the table. Sometimes they are caught.
How about the driving rules that they can't have anyone else in the car unless they are relatives even if they are over 21 or after 1am. They are enforced.

Getting a first job is hard for the young. Way to go FishBaitThe2nd!!!

You gots a job.. you're working hard. Good for you!! Don't get caught up in the short sided spending. Sounds like you've only got until August, until football. Work hard, and at this early stage in life, maybe pick an end of summer item that you are saving for?? :-k You don't have to start your retirement portfolio just yet. I'd pick an item, and shop in August, just prior to football.

Ill be working a bit in August, but not as much as I am now, and thru July. During the school year ill be working on school breaks, (winter break, spring break), weekends, and any other days I have off.
10% of money earned, im putting to the side and not looking at it thinking "me", more so my future, and itll be used for emergencies only. The first time I get paid, Im gonna go buy me a new fly rod (mine broke), a tackle box, and a new hunting pack. After that, everything is going towards a cj5.
Im bringing in about $550 a week.
