Gear Theft

I guess that this is the place to post things about gear, so I'm going to riff on a crime that has struck me four times now... the theft of fishing gear. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem, and I'm sure my losses are not the worst, but I'm still going to gripe about it.

My boathouse on the south end of Lake Coeur d' Alene has been hit again. The losses this time were a mere $150.00, but still it burns me. So if you see any of these items around, be suspicious... A Matt Lures Hard Sunfish ($60), an Ito Vision 110 Megabass Jerkbait ($25), a brand new Ugly Stick Combo (I just bought my 3 year old daughter her first pole and it was used once) with a closed faced spinning type reel ($35), 1 small tube of super glue, 1 jar of Mend-It swimbait repair glue, 1 small combination-type tool with a flashlight on it and a hand-machined 5/8 nut tied to it, 1 jar of herring scent attractant, 1 Senko Texas Rigged. All these were left in a dead-bolted boathouse on the deck of my boat. Everything else was locked away and stored safely out of reach, but can you explain someone stealing glue? I guess one can only swim away with so many items.

No rhyme or reason, thieves are just thieves. No comment on what drives people to do it, Karma does seem to get them in the end....

Maybe a trail cam is in order. A quick photo and a trip to the swimming beach and you may have your culprit.

It dosent matter how nice a home is or how well guarded it is. I had a 5HP Johnson stolen right out my boat one night while sockeye season was on. I was docked on a private dock on Mercer Island. Ive had my window bashed out once on the Snoqualmie. Saturday on the Sky teen kids were on bikes going through the Lewis st parking lot. You know what they are looking for. Sorry about your loss.

Yep, definitely a head-scratcher. The parks department said that they had put up a video camera on the docks, but, ironically, it got stolen! I thought about the trail-cam idea, but I would probably just capture a bunch of bats and swallows. So it goes, I guess! At least it wasn't a 5 hp motor... that really sucks.

In my backyard Ive set up Booby traps and trip wires. I figure if Im gonna get robbed I might as well hurt the robbers.I have a inner city forest behind my house. I have nail studded boards set up like a mine field. Revenge can be sweet.

I have heard that. I wanted to put spike strips in my own lawn when some little punk kept driving on it. I was told that if I put the strips down and someone walked on my lawn and got hurt, I would be liable. Even thought they would be tresspassing on my property.

And when your dog bites the crap out of the burglar and they sue you for having a vicious dog and damages........

I heard that too. the way around that is I put up signs saying "Posted No Trespassing" As long as the signs are visible I will not be respondsible for someone who hurts themselves. So I was told.

I was going to say the same, but relented. Unfortunately, it is very true, and Rac, sad to say, posting "No Tresspassing" signs isn't going to protect you from a lawsuit filed by someone who was injured on your property in the commission of an illegal act. It really is true the criminals have more rights than honest people today.

Geeze Whizz guys. You take the fun out of me punishing the bad guys. LOL. It is amazing how you cant protect yourselves. This reminds me of the two guys who broke into the Macdonalds warehouse and stole fish filets and burgers. One of the guys cut his arm up on the broken glass. he sued mickey D's. I never heard the outcome but it just blew my mind that some lawyer and judge would even permit this.

and if you cant prove thier intent on harming you, you will end up doing time and never legally owing weapons again. Hoodlooms have the right to be in your home if they are not going to harm you
