We haven't been to American in a few years but we used to go there for smallies quite abit. The Little American end (the military end) is where we always went and sometimes we had pretty good luck. I think I remember hearing that the smallie fishing was supposed to be good down by the VA hospital too. I've heard there has been some vehicle break-ins at the county launch so don't leave anything valuable in sight.
Good luck and post reports when you catch something.

I have heard that there are some HUGE Largies in Little American. Was fishing there early in the year and an older gentleman said he scuba dives that part of the lake and has seen some fish that could go 10lbs+ easy...just getting a tube or a bait down in the downed trees is what he was telling me is the key to getting these hawgs..no reason not to believe him. Also I have seen some smaller Largies between the islands to the left of the public launch..Hope this helps..oh yeah some guy caught a largie off the dock at Bill's boathouse too!!
